Big Bald Trail Running Tour

Every guide on our team has developed an intimate knowledge of our national forest and can offer you an in-depth history to all the areas we run in. Some of our guides have even section hiked, or thru-hiked the entire Appalachian Trail!

Originally owned by George Vanderbilt, Pisgah National Forest is the oldest of its kind in the eastern United States and holds deep historical relevance among several generations. Additionally, this route is entirely on the Appalachian Trail, giving runners a glimpse into what AT thru-hikers face on their challenging trek.

Though different than a hiking tour, our running tours accommodate any pace - even if you may consider yours more of a hike. It's also expected that we will stop several times for photos along the way.

Itinerary

Run part of the 2,200-mile long Appalachian Trail as it passes through Pisgah National Forest! Just shy of 13 miles round trip, this trail running tour visits one of the most memorable and notable vistas on the entire trail! The summit of Big Bald offers dramatic 360-degree views from its bald summit, plus we'll pass two other overlooks on the way there.

Water is available on the trail, but we recommend utilizing a hydration pack/vest and packing extra layers for the nearly 5,500' summit. Trekking poles are recommended, though not required, and prior running experience is a must. This route includes a considerable amount of climbing, and its expected that we may have to hike several sections along the way.
