Open Treasure is the award-winning museum of Durham Cathedral, with exhibitions and interactive displays for visitors of all ages. Explore the story of the cathedral, experience its magnificent Claustral buildings, including the 14th century Monks’ Dormitory and the Great Kitchen, and marvel at the breath-taking collections gathered over the centuries, including the Anglo-Saxon Treasures of St Cuthbert.

A programme of temporary exhibitions highlights the huge variety within the cathedral’s collections.

Mapping the World showcases the exquisite and extraordinary maps, charts and atlases in the cathedral's collections, including early maps of Durham.

For millennia humans have strived to understand our place in the world. We have recorded the places we have lived, worked and travelled in with drawings and maps. Explore some extraordinary examples of these, discover the people involved, and find out about the work that made them possible.

Open Treasure is only part of what visitors can experience at Durham Cathedral. There are public tours of the Cathedral most days, bookable on the day of your visit. The Cathedral Tower is open, weather permitting, offering fabulous views of Durham and the surrounding countryside. Visitors are always welcome to attend services at the cathedral, with the Cathedral Choir singing Evensong most days, as well as services on a Sunday.
