For those lucky enough to have more time to venture north three to four days is the perfect amount of time to take in all the Scottish Highlands have to offer. Aiming for the Isle of Skye we leave Edinburgh heading for Fort William via Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Take in the stunning scenery as we wind up the A68 stopping at selected viewpoints the odd photo opportunity, after Fort William, we head to Fort Augustus a beautiful little village with plenty to see and do. After lunch by the locks, a short drive sees us at Urquhart Castle, a fantastic visitor attraction with stunning views of Loch Ness. To round off the day dinner and drinks in Inverness with an overnight stay.

Up early to make the most of the day we head over towards the coast and Eilean Donan Castle, a 13th century fortified outpost famous for its involvement in the Jacobite uprising in the early 17th century. A short drive takes us up and over the Skye Bridge and onto the island itself, lunch in Portree followed by a walk up to The Old Man of Storr. From there we head to Uig following the coast stopping at the Kilt Rock waterfalls, outside of Uig in the hills above lye the Fairy Glen. An overnight stop in Dunvegan rounds out the day.

After a hearty breakfast, a tour of Dunvegan Castle & Gardens is in order, the stunning Castle heart of some 42,000-acre estate is a sight to behold. Heading West, to the most westerly point on the Isle of Skye, is Neist Point, one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and regarded as the best place to see Whales, Dolphins & Sea Birds.

Now on the return leg of our journey, we find ourselves winding through the hills and ranges of Skye, of course stopping for the odd photo opportunity. Rest is likely in order so sit back, relax and soak in what has been a trip to remember.
