Helen's Grand Designs and Hidden Gems tour

My name is Helen. I love my city and I like to show it from a local viewpoint!

My favourite places are unusual ones that are off the beaten track and are often missed by many visitors. I aim to show you these combined with the incredible history, culture and sights we have to offer.

I keep my group sizes small which gives us plenty of time to talk!

I set up my company “Edinburgh Welcome Tours” because during my travels I have been invited to homes all over the world so now I want to welcome visitors from everywhere to my own home town.

My other tours -"Helen's Highs and Hidden Lows" and "Helen's Historic Old City Tour" cover different areas. Please see our Edinburgh Welcome Tours website or contact us for details.

We also run individual tours at a time and place to suit you. Please contact us directly if you are interested so that we can produce the perfect one for you!

Stop At: Queen Street Gardens, 13 Heriot Row, Edinburgh EH3 6HP, UK

This tour passes through the UNESCO World Heritage area of the "New" Town which dates back to 1767! It is the largest Georgian example of town planning anywhere in the world. We will see many of the elegant homes, grand streets and architecture and learn about the people who lived and worked there.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Dean Village, Dean Path, Edinburgh EH8 8BH Scotland

We then dive down below the city and walk along a river bank in what feels like a rural area hidden away below the city.  The walk passes by beautiful green gardens where you can listen to the bird life and occasionally see the odd heron catching fish in the stream.

Finally we finish in a hidden village which dates back to the 12th century and is only a stones throw away from the city centre.  We learn all about the history of the people living there and the different circumstances the village has been through over the centuries.
