8 Day Gorilla Trek Wildlife Safari and Chimpanzee Habituation Experience

The major highlights of the 8 days safari is gorilla trekking and chimpanzee habituation experience at Kibale National Park. The tour is planned to start in Kigali, Rwanda and end in Kampala, Uganda. However, the tour can also be done in reverse, with a start in Kampala and end in Kigali, Rwanda.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi National Park in Uganda

Stop At: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma Kanungu and Kisoro, Kabale Uganda
We will drive from Kigali, Rwanda to Bwindi National Park in Uganda. The drive will take 4-5 hours.
Duration: 5 hours

Day 2: Gorilla trekking adventure at Bwindi National Park

Stop At: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma Kanungu and Kisoro, Kabale Uganda
You will head to the Bwindi national park gate immediately after breakfast to get a briefing about the gorilla trek. The briefing will be conducted by the national park guide and will cover the basics on what to expect during the trek. It is at this point that you will be told which gorilla family to trek. It is likely that you will be joined by other visitors. The gorilla trek can take from a few to many hours depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking at Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Stop At: Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Kisoro Uganda
Golden monkey trekking (morning). Trek the Golden Monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
This trip will take you to trek the golden monkeys, an endemic species of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. You will enter the forest and walk through the bamboo vegetation and a variety of indigenous plants like giant lobelia. During the trip, your national park guide will tell you about the history of the national park and the fauna and flora that the park holds. The golden monkey trek should take about 5 hours.
After golden monkey trekking transfer to the famous Lake Bunyonyi for an evening of relaxation.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector to spot tree climbing lions

Stop At: ishasha sector, Entrance Gate, Uganda
Drive from Bwindi National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Make a stopover at the Ishasha sector to spot tree climbing lions.

Day 5: Kasenyi game drive and Kazinga channel boat trip at Queen Elizabeth National Park

Stop At: Queen Elizabeth National Park, 410 kilometers from Kampala, Kasese Uganda
In the morning visit Kasenyi plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park for safari game drives.
Duration: 4 hours

Stop At: Queen Elizabeth National Park, 410 kilometers from Kampala, Kasese Uganda
In the afternoon, join a boat cruise on Kazinga channel to encounter various species of animals (elephants, buffalos, etc) and birds
Duration: 2 hours

Day 6: Kyambura gorge walk. Transfer to Kibale National Park via Fort Portal crater lakes drive

Pass By: Kibale National Park, Kasese Uganda
We will start the day with a nature walk at Kyambura gorge, which is also known to host chimpanzees. Afterward, we will drive to Kibale National Park via the Fort Portal crater lakes drives.

Day 7: Chimpanzee habituation experience (full day)

Stop At: Kibale National Park, Kasese Uganda
Starting in the morning at Kibale National Forest Park, you will go into the jungle to experience the chimpanzee habituation experience. This will be a whole day experience of learning about how the chimps are trained to get familiar with human experience. You will be guided in the trek by Uganda Wildlife Authority staff. If time permits after the trek, there are complementary activities to do including community walks and visiting the Bigodi swamp sanctuary.

Day 8: Drive from Kibale National Park to Kampala or Entebbe

This will be the last day of the 8 day safari. We will drive from Kibale National Park to Kampala or Entebbe airport
