This guided walking tour passes through villages and spice plantations; a walk through the farms as spice farm workers climb long coconut trees. Our knowledgeable guides are well-trained to give you the in-depth information not only about spices, but also organically grown herbs and a detailed description about their uses in traditional dishes and medicinally.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kizimbani Spice farm, Zanzibar

Stop At: Tangawizi Spice Farm, Kianga - Dole Near Dole Mosque, Stone Town, Zanzibar City 5301101 Tanzania
This is a half-day trip to the spice plantations located few kilometres from Zanzibar town. It is a fantastic opportunity to see the countryside and rural areas of Zanzibar and connect with local people.

The history of Zanzibar would be incomplete without the cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper and many other spices which are essential ingredient in Zanzibar’s everyday life. Zanzibar and spice have a romantic entanglement that dates back to the 16th century. Apart from their obvious culinary uses, spices are used in Zanzibari traditional medicine to treat sickness. Some are used as antidotes to poisons and others taken as aphrodisiacs. Their essential oils are important rustic wellness treatments and their flowers are used for decoration and celebration

The tour includes visiting the Kidichi Persian Baths built in 1850 by the first Sultan of Zanzibar as a gift for his Persian wife.

Day 2: STONE TOWN HISTORICAL TOUR

Stop At: Stone Town, Zanzibar City Tanzania
Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous as a former capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate, and flourishing centre of the spice trade as well as the slave trade in the 19th century. Today there are over 16,000 people in the town, and over 1,700 recorded buildings. Tall houses line narrow alleyways set in a confusing maze radiating out from the centre towards the sea.

A tour through fabled Stone Town also known as Mji Mkongwe (Swahili for "old town), where history appears to stand still. Located on the western coast of Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, it was named for the coral stone buildings that were built there largely during the 19th century, on the site of a very old fishing village.

The tour includes a visit to an Anglican Cathedral of Christ (Slave market chambers), House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People's Palace), Darajani Market, St Joseph’s Catholic Cathedral, Dr Livingston's House and the Old Fort amongst others. It is a fascinating look at the essence of Zanzibar.

You will see Zanzibar's bustling market, winding alleyways, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques. Stone Town has some excellent gift shops with plenty of souvenirs and handicrafts to choose from.

It is the guided walk through colourful and alternating town with your knowledgeable guide(s) who knows funny, but also cruel stories to give a balanced picture of Stone Town’s history.
