We have been granted exclusive rights to offer clients the experience of a lifetime – spending a night in a traditional Maasai boma. Situated in the beautiful Lake Manyara/Tarangire wildlife corridor, a stay at Simangori Boma can easily in incorporated into your safari itinerary. Whether you choose to stay under canvas, or in a traditional Maasai hut, your overnight in the boma(home stead) will be a life-changing experience. Proceeds from camp fees go toward village development projects.

No visit to Tanzania is complete without participating in the truly unique Simangori Maasai Village cultural experience. Witness and participate in the daily activities of the Maasai by visiting a traditional boma, or homestead. The opportunity to experience Maasai culture is rare and powerful, and will leave you in awe of how their customs and traditions have remained unchanged over the years, despite rapid changes in the world around them.

Situated in the beautiful wildlife corridor between Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks, your cultural experience at Simangori Maasai Village is easily incorporated into any safari itinerary, and is a value-added opportunity that will enrich your time in Tanzania.

Day 1:

Upon arrival at Simangori Maasai Village at approximately 1600hrs, you will enjoy a welcome dance and greeting ceremony with the villagers, including Elders and Warriors. You will be bestowed with gifts presented by the village Chief, including Maasai shukas – the traditional dress of the Maasai people. You will be invited to visit into a Maasai hut where you’ll be introduced to the work of Maasai women, and life of the children. Following this visit, you will be met by large herds of cattle returning home from grazing. Join with Maasai women and try your hand at milking cows and goats. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by your professional chef. Following dinner, you will sit around a bon fire under the stars while you learn about Maasai life and culture from your Maasai guide. This is a time for storytelling and discussion. Continue your evening with singing and dancing with the Maasai who welcome you to participate. Proceed to your comfortable tented accommodations where you will fall asleep under the protection of the Maasai whilst listening to the evocative sounds of the African night all around.

DAY 2:

After a very early breakfast, and following a sunrise over Maasailand, you will have a spear throwing lesson with Maasai Warriors. Your guide will then take you on a nature walk and teach you the essentials of survival in the bush; you will be introduced to the sounds, sights and smells of the bush – each plant, bird, insect and footprint has a story to tell. You will feel a closeness to the land that no tourist in a vehicle will ever understand. Following your nature walk, you will be surprised with a lunch arranged under the acacia trees, after which you will return to the boma where you will be invited by the women of the village to join them in making the famous colored Maasai beaded jewelry – necklaces, earrings, bracelets. After your visit with the Maasai Mamas, you will say your farewells at the boma and proceed to the next leg of your safari.
