Mikumi national park is located at the north of Selous Reserve, less than 300 km. from Dar-Es-Salaam (7 hours from Dar es Salaam), Because of its accessibility it is one of the most popular parks in Tanzania and is an important centre for education where students go to study ecology and conservation. Mikumi national park is estimates to have 3,230 sq km area. The common animals which can be frequently encountered includes lions, packs of wild dog which are rarely seen in East Africa, Elephants as well as giraffe, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, crocodiles, pythons and monitor lizards and Hippos.
