Kilimanjaro Climbing Marangu Route

Marangu route 5 days on the mountain is the easiest route to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit – KIBO. The Marangu route is the only route with comfortable beds at each camp. The Marangu route is well-developed since the route offers accommodation in huts and the climb is constant and moderate. The summit approach is slightly difficult compared to other Kilimanjaro trekking routes as it needs commitment. The accommodation on Marangu route is in Simple Mountain huts, which might be an advantage compared to the camping routes.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania – drive to Moshi.

You will be met on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport by our staff, soon after drive to the Hotel in Moshi, Climbing brifing and gear inspection will be conducted this evening. Your mountain guide will meet you for further familiarisation and deliberation. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Moshi.

Day 2: Marangu Gate 1,860 M Mandara hut 2,700 M.

After breakfast, proceed to Marangu gate at Kilimanjaro National Park, climbing formalities will be conducted before climbing begun through dense rainforest. There re so much to see on your way. Approximately 4 hours later, you will reach your first day’s camp on the mountain for the rest of the day, the Mandara Hut. Here you will rest,  before, your guide takes you to Maundi Crater where you can enjoy wonderful views of the Kenyan interior. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.

Day 3: Mandara Hut 2,700 M to Horombo Hut 3,700 M.

After early breakfast walk past Mandara Hut, you will reach the tree line where vegetation changes to shrubs. Just about 4 to 6 hours later, the Horombo Hut will come into sight at an altitude of about 3,720 meter. From the hut you will have fantastic views overlooking Mawenzi, Kibo peak and the Masai steppe. Lunch will be provided at midday. Dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 4: Horombo Hut 3,700 M to Kibo Hut 4,700 M.

Today’s hiking is long and tough. The trail passes the “last water point” which is followed by the so-called “saddle”. This nearly plant less plateau links the summit of Kibo with Mawenzi. Today’s destination is Kibo Hut and it may be reached in about 5 to 6 hours. Tonight is an early night to get enough rest, since you will be woken up at approximately 23:00 hours. Accommodation nd meals at KIbo Hut.

Day 5: Kibo Hut 4,700 M to Uhuru Peak 5,895 M to Horombo Hut 3,700 M.

Summit Day. You will start in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen and walking on it is easier. Passing the Hans Meyer cave at 5,200 meter, then hike slowly but surely upwards. At sunrise, you will reach Gilman’s Point 5,715 M on the crater rim. After another 1 to 2 hours; you will reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 M. You are on the “Roof of Africa”. Soon after descend to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits you.  After 1 to 2 hours break, proceed to the Horombo Hut 3,700 M where you will arrive in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6:  Horombo Hut 3,700 M to Marangu Gate 1,860 M to Moshi.

Walk to Mandara Hut 2,700 M where a hot lunch awaits for you. Soon descend through the lush tropical rain-forest to Marangu Gate 1,860 M. Your drive to Moshi hotel will start as soon as you are here. Evening at leisure

Day 7: Departure from Moshi to Kilimanjaro Airport.

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight back home.
