Stop At: Munneswaram Kovil Temple, Wariyapola Rd, Chilaw 61000 Sri Lanka

Munneswaram temple complex which consists of 4 Hindu temples and 1 Buddhist temple is believed to have been in existence since 1000 AD. Destroyed twice by the Portuguese the temples were reconstructed on land granted to the priests by King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe. Legends and myths associated with this temple are many as this place of worship is of significance to multiple faiths in the island.

Stop At: St. Anne’s Church, Talawila Rd., Puttalam 61300 Sri Lanka

This imposing Portuguese Roman Catholic church is known to be the oldest Catholic Shrine in the island. One legend states that this shrine was built in the place where a 17th century poor Portuguese traveler returning from Colombo after being unsuccessful in seeking a living had seen the vision of St Anne. Another legend states that the shrine is in the place where the shipwrecked crew of an European trading ship placed an image of St Anne and vowed to build a shrine if they had success in their business.

Stop At: Puttalam, Puttalam, North Western Province

Puttalam is rich in the natural resources required for the production of salt. Legend has it that the land on which the natural salterns in Puttalam are located were formerly owned by the King of Sri Lanka. The salterns currently occupy 815 acres on the edge of the lagoon and supplies about a 3rd of the countries salt needs.

Anuradhapura, is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Lankan civilization. From the 4th century BC, it was the capital of Sri Lanka until the beginning
of the 11th century AD. During this period it remained one of the most stable and durable centers of political power and urban life in South Asia. The ancient city, considered sacred to the Buddhist world, is today surrounded by monasteries covering an area of over sixteen square miles (40 km²).

You will visit the Sri Maha Bodhi An offshoot of the historical Bodhi tree under which Buddha became enlightened was planted in Anuradhapura in 288 BC, Abhayagiri Dagaba, Ruwanwelisaya Stupa, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya, Jetavanaramaya- This is the largest stupa in Sri Lanka. It was the third largest structure in the ancient world. Mirisaveti Stupa, Lankarama Stupa.
