Itinerary

Day 1: Sigiriya - Kandy

Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress, Sigiriya 21120 Sri Lanka
Pickup from hotel and proceed to Sigiriya and climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

The remains of Sigiriya constructed by King Kasapa I (477-495 AD) whom the Mahavansa introduces as a patricide lie five miles off Inamaluwa on the Dambulla-Habarana Road. On the west of the rock are ponds, the remains of summer palaces and other structures, and the first part of the ancient road, which led to the summit Ramparts. In the past the entire western face of the rock had been covered with plaster and painted upon, but only those paintings in two sheltered pockets now survive. The last lap of the ancient path to the summit had been through the mouth of a lion, but at present only parts of the lion’s legs and some of the lime stone steps from inside the lion’s mouth survives.

Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple, Jaffna Hwy, Habarana 50150 Sri Lanka
Then we will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.

Dambulla is famous for the five cave Temples on a rock. The first 03 caves are better, older and larger than the other two. Some caves dates to 1st C.B.C. All the 5 cave walls and ceilings are covered with Buddhist murals and there are more than 130 Buddha statues, statues of Gods and Kings are also found here

Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka
This temple houses the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha and is one of the Holiest Buddhist places of worship in the world. The history of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Sri Lanka begins in the fourth century A.D. According to traditional history it was during the reign of Kirti Sri Meghavanna. The Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka from Kalinga in India (301-328 AD). A Temple for the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy was first built by King Vimaladharmasuriya I, when he ascended the throne of the Kandyan Kingdom in 1592 AD.

Day 2: Kandy

Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka
After breakfast you will go on a City tour of Kandy.

This lovely city, the Hill Capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings retains an aura of grandeur, which time has not affected. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned “Temple of the Tooth” and the Royal Botanical gardens, home to one of the best collections of Orchids. Kandy and its satellite villages is the centre of the islands handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country. Spice Gardens dot the outskirts of Kandy along with handicraft centers and the market place is a hub of activities

Next you will visit the Royal Botanical Gardens.

The history of the Royal Botanic Gardens dates as far back as 1371 when King Wickramabahu III ascended the throne and kept court at Peradeniya near Mahaweli Ganga. Later, in the reign of King Kirti Sri Rajasingha from 1747 to 1780 this was made a Royal Garden and from 1780 – 1798 King Rajadhi Rajasinghr resided therein. This garden is one of the best in the world with its Variety of plants. The best known attraction in the Orchid house which houses more than 300 varieties of orchids

You will visit a Tea Plantation in Giragama followed by a visit to the spice garden. Then you will be dropped off at the hotel, confirming the end of the tour
