This beautiful mountain village was once home to one of the most famous love stories of all times. Chopin and the french writer George Sand lived in the Monastery of Valldemossa and the village inspired some of their famous works.

Many doorways feature the religious symbol of Majorca’s patron saint, Catherine Thomàs. Also known as Catherine of Palma, she protects the houses, a tradition set many years ago and still present in Valldemossa.

The village is a perfect destination if you want to explore the island´s countryside. You can also enjoy a coffee and a “coca de patata”, the famous mallorcan pastry especially popular in Valldemossa.

Converted into a historical emblem of the island, the monastery was built at the beginning of the XIV century by King Jaime the second for his son Sancho. The building was re-purposed in 1399 by monks and is now known as the “Royal Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa”. Some of its famous guests were Rubén Darío, Azorín, Unamuno, the great composer Chopin and Georges Sand, who wrote his famous book “A winter in Mallorca”.
