This Lowland Gorilla Trekking Trip takes you to the Democratic Republic of Congo, another home to the endangered Gorillas in Africa. Congo DRC has both Lowland and Mountain Gorillas. Lowland Gorillas are found in Kahuzi Biega national park and the critically endangered mountain gorillas are found in Virunga National Park. You will also be able to go for the chimpanzee Trekking in Cyamudongo forest as well as Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali International Airport - Hotel

Stop At: Kigali Genocide Memorial, KG 14 Ave, Kigali Rwanda
Depending on your arrival time, if time allows we will begin with the city tour covering major sites like the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

Day 2: Kigali - Butare

Stop At: National Museum of Rwanda, RN1/Road to Nyanza The museum actually is situated in the town of Nyanza, Butare Rwanda
After an early morning breakfast, you will drive south of Kigali to Butare where on arrival you will visit the Butare National Museum. On the way to Butare, you will stopby at Nyanza to visit the King's Palace

Day 3: Butare - Nyungwe Forest National Park

Stop At: Nyungwe National Park, Butare Rwanda
After Breakfast, we will drive nyungwe Forest National Park & on arrival we will do the canopy walk. Along the way we will stopby at Gikongoro to visit the genocide memorial

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking, Nyungwe Forest National Park, Rwanda - Bukavu/Kahuzi Biega National Park, DR. Congo

Stop At: Cyamudongo Project - Conservation of Biodiversity and Natural Resources by Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Unnamed Road, Rwanda
Early in the morning you will head to Cyamudongo Forest for Chimpanzee Trekking & this will be followed by a transfer to Bukavu D.R Congo. You will cross thru the Rusizi 1 Border & enter DR. Congo which will take you less time to be at the lodge.

Day 5: Lowland Gorilla Trekking, Kahuzi Biega National Park, DR. Congo - Cyangungu/Rusizi, Rwanda

Stop At: Kahuzi-Biega National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Kahuzi-Biega National Park is a World Heritage site. A vast area of primary tropical forest dominated by two spectacular extinct volcanoes, Kahuzi and Biega , the park has a diverse and abundant fauna. Some of the last groups of eastern lowland gorillas consisting of only some 7,000 individuals, live here at between 2100 and 2400 m above the sea-level. They have black coats, and the males develop silver backs as they mature. With the help of a ranger and trackers, we approach this rare primate. The walk can take several hours, but coming across the group in its particular habitat is an inspiring moment. after the day experience transfer back to Rwanda at Cyangungu.

Day 6: Cyangungu/Rusizi - Volcanoes National Park

Stop At: Lake Kivu, Kibuye Rwanda
after a leisurely breakfast, you will start your journey to Rwanda's most visited national Park at Volcanoes National Park

Day 7: Golden Monkey Trekking, Volcanoes National Park - Kigali/Departure

Stop At: Kigali Arts Center, 44 KG 654 St, Kigali Rwanda
Start early on your first morning for a trip to track the golden monkeys. These primates are beautiful, endangered and more agile than the mountain gorillas. They live in bamboo thickets on the lower slopes of the mountains – and tracking them acclimatizes you perfectly to the slight altitude, before heading higher to the gorillas marking your last views of the park's environs, drive for roughly 2.5 hours south-east back to Kigali Airport. Here your private guide and 4WD vehicle leave you to continue your journey, either home or to your next destination.
