Lisbon City Half Day Tour (3h30)

Known as the city on the seven hills overlooking Rio Tejo, Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal, and one of the most charismatic and vibrant cities of Europe, where the old charm coexists with striking modernism. Explore Lisbon Downtown, and see the city’s main landmarks while learning interesting facts from your guide.

The fantastic area of Belém, which is in front of the Tejo River, near the April 25th Bridge gathers some symbols of the illustrious maritime past of Portugal. Our Tour will allow a return to the time of the discoveries where we will find the famous Tower of Belém (a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the significant role it played during the Portuguese maritime discoveries) that dates back more than 500 years, the Jerónimos Monastery where are buried Luís Vaz de Camões and Vasco da Gama, and the Monument of the Discoveries, while savoring a delicious Pastel de Belém.

Stop At: Se de Lisboa ( Igreja de Santa Maria Maior ), Largo da Se, Lisbon 1100-585 Portugal

Dedicated to the Mother of God, Lisbon Cathedral is one of the city's gems and one of the most significant monuments in the country, due to its historical, religious and artistic value. Its construction began in 1147, when the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, reconquered the city from the Moors. It was built on a Muslim mosque - which in turn, as the archaeological excavations confirmed, had been built on a previous Visigothic Christian temple.

Stop At: Igreja de Santo Antonio, Largo de Santo Antonio da Se, Lisbon 1100-401 Portugal

The Igreja Santo Antonio, Lisbon is a charming church dedicated to Saint Anthony, the patron saint of Portugal. The exterior façade of the late Baroque styled church resembles more of a grand residence rather than an important religious building. The significance of the Igreja de Santo Antonio originates from it being the location of the birthplace of Lisbon’s beloved Saint Anthony.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, Praca do Imperio Belém, Lisbon 1400-206 Portugal

The Jeronimos Monastery is the most impressive symbol of Portugal's power and wealth during the Age of Discovery. King Manuel I built it in 1502. It was built to commemorate Vasco Da Gama's voyage and to give thanks to the Virgin Mary for its success.

Vasco da Gama's tomb was placed inside by the entrance, as was the tomb of poet Luis de Camões, author of the epic The Lusiads in which he glorifies the triumphs of Da Gama and his compatriots. Other great figures in Portuguese history are also entombed here, like King Manuel and King Sebastião, and poets Fernando Pessoa and Alexandre Herculano.

It's one of the great triumphs of European Gothic (UNESCO has classified it a World Heritage monument), with much of the design characterized by elaborate sculptural details and maritime motifs. This style of architecture became known as "Manueline," a style that served to glorify the great "discoveries" of the age.

The cloisters are magnificent, with each column differently carved with coils of rope, sea monsters, coral, and other sea motifs, evocative of that time of world exploration at sea.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Torre de Belem, Avenida Brasilia - Belem, Lisbon 1400-038 Portugal

Belém Tower is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Lisbon that played a key role in Europe’s Age of Discoveries, since it served both as a fortress and as a port from where Portuguese explorers departed to establish what would be the first European trade in history with China and India.
