Why was such a large palace built in Mafra? This is so much to discover in this imposing palace. Our favourites nclude the Basilica with 92 bells and 6 organs, a magnificent library, monks cells, an infirmary and a convent. You may also visit the Tapada Nacional de Mafra - Mafra’s National Park is a former Royal park and hunting ground and is home to deers, boars and many more varieties of mammals, reptiles and birds. Take a walk on one of the trails or ride the small train. Perfect for children.

On a road between Mafra and Ericeira is a picturesque miniatures village, handmade by Jose Franco and is another activity perfect for children. The miniature scenes recreate local customs of the region and take you back in time.

This beautiful beach is a popular place for surfers due to its reliable reef break.
