Ria Formosa is a very important site for birds in the Algarve with more than 200 species visiting the lagoon every year and because of this, the nature park is protected under Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar) Convention and the Birds and Habitats Directive (Natura 2000 Network).
During this guided boat tour, a biologist will show you different bird species and other animals living or visiting Ria Formosa Natural Park. Take a chance to watch and learn more about our local fauna while cruising by boat through the lagoon. You can observe species such as the Whimbrels, Kingfishers, Spoonbills, Ospreys, Sterns, Plovers, Falcons and many other birds!

Itinerary

Join a guided boat tour with a marine biologist through Ria Formosa in search of different bird species while learning more about the surrounding area!
Ria Formosa Natural Park is an important transit and breeding area for many birds with more than 200 species in the lagoon every year! During this activity, a guide will explain you more about this natural park while pointing out for different types and species of birds. Among the most seen birds we have egrets & herons, spoonbills, sterns, plovers and sandpipers, kingfishers but also ospreys and falcons. The boat departs from Faro, and runs around the marshland area of the lagoon either towards Faro beach or Deserta Island depending on the current wind and tide conditions. Binoculars are provided at the boat.
