São Pedro do Corval is a Portuguese parish in Reguengos de Monsaraz municipality, in the Alentejo region, with about 3,636 inhabitants.
São Pedro de Corval currently has more than twenty artisan potteries. Therefore, it has the largest concentration of pottery in Portugal and one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula.
Did you know that, since prehistoric times, there are unique clay deposits in São Pedro do Corval in this region of Alentejo?
The clays have made it possible for our people throughout our history to create utilitarian pieces. These are so peculiar to the Alentejo temperament because they have made your daily life a little easier. Some of these remnants of our past have survived to our day, teaching us how our grandparents lived.
The custom in the manufacture of these pieces of such special value remains very alive in São Pedro do Corval. Here the potters masters still mold the clay by hand. They do so while slowly spinning their wheel and sharing their life stories with visitors.
