Stop At: Gombak, Batu Caves 68100 Malaysia

The Batu Caves in Malaysia are one of the most important Hindu religious sites outside of India and are a must-see once you tire of shopping and wandering Kuala Lumpur.

Just eight short miles north of the city, the Batu Caves are just one of the many interesting things to do around Kuala Lumpur. The caves attract around 5,000 visitors a day who come to climb the grueling 272 steps up to the caverns.

The Batu Caves are a focal point for Hindu Malaysians, particularly during Thaipusam: they house a 113-year-old temple, along with an interesting array of Hindu artwork and shrines.

Every year during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam, the Batu Caves attract more than a million devotees and spectators. The eight-hour procession of music and ceremony leaves offerings before a giant statue of Lord Murugan, the Hindu God of War.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Bukit Melawati, Kuala Selangor Malaysia

Bukit Malawati is one of the few notable tourist draws in the sleepy district of Kuala Selangor in the Klang Valley. The historic hill is about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur.

It is also just a stone’s throw away from Pasir Penambang, which is known to be a hub for dried sea products and affordable seafood. So if you ever need a stroll after a hearty lunch on a weekend, consider making the journey here

The uphill walk is a great way to burn calories. However, unless you’re athletically inclined or wouldn’t mind being drenched in sweat, we honestly wouldn’t recommend the steep climb.

The place is usually teeming with local residents and tourists during the weekends. Its popularity can be attributed to the fact that Bukit Malawati is an all-round great hangout spot. Ample free parking? Check. A spot that blends nature and history? Check. Breezy lookout point? You got it.

The top offers spectacular views of the town as well as the Straits of Malacca. In the past, the hill was used as a fort against navy invaders and was a stronghold of the Selangor sultanate.

Today, its illustrious past is reflected in the presence of some cannons, foundation stones and colonial homes.

The endangered Silvered Leaf Monkey (Silvery Lutung) can be found in abundance around the hill. While most are relatively tame and will feed out of your hand, do be mindful of your personal belongings.

After the visit here and your experience with the silver leaf monkey we will be leaving to the Pasir Penambang Fisherman Villages for a Wild Sea Eagle Feeding Boat Trip and Fireflies Boat Trip including a Seafood Dinner at Riverside Restaurant (by your own cost)
