Ohrid Weekend Break

Ohrid is the gem of Macedonian tourism and as such deserves to be explored. This weekend break gives you the opportunity to explore Ohrid and the Macedonian capital, Skopje in a short stay making use of the increasing low cost flights into Ohrid international airport

Day 1. Ohrid Airport – Ohrid – St. Naum (boat trip) – Ohrid

Meet at the airport and transfer to the hotel. After checking in the hotel we start the Ohrid visits with its main attractions: the Church St. Sofia, built between the 11th and 14th century, which was the seat of the Archbishop. “St. Clement”, a classic Orthodox Byzantine church, dominating the Old Town, demonstrates the link between Byzantine and Italian Renaissance art. At “Plaoshnik”, in the 9 the century, St. Clement of Ohrid founded the first University of Europe and educated 3.500 students. St. John at Kaneo, stands alone on a small peninsula which juts out into the lake at the western end of the Old Town and provides spectacular panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains, Samuil fortress, Saint Painteleimon Church, The Holy Virgin of Peribleptos Church, Icon Gallery and old Bazaar. After lunch, the tour continues with a boat trip to St. Naum monastery. Built on the rocky hill right above the lake, the monastery of St. Naum is one of the most beautiful pilgrimage spots in Macedonia.

Day 2. Ohrid – Stobi – Skopje the capital – Ohrid

After breakfast driving to Skopje through Stobi where we visit: The old city of Stobi “…Stobis, vetus urbs…”, is considered by many to be the most famous archaeological site in the Republic of Macedonia, as the Roman historian Livy named it, was the largest city in the northern part of the Roman province Macedonia, later capital city of the Roman province Macedonia Secunda, an important urban, military, administrative, trade and religious centre of two large empires: Roman and Early Byzantine. After Stobi we continue our trip to Skopje The capital of Macedonia, situated in the Skopje Valley. It is a very attractive tourist destination with its fortress, cultural and historical monuments, archaeological cities, caves in the canyon of the river Treska and Lake Matka and a health spa in the eastern part of the city.
