Kohima and Khonoma Camping Tour

Camp to one of the best views Nagaland has to offer. Dine on fresh cooked Naga cuisines. For those who like red meat, varieties of smoked and fresh meat, infused with local herbs and generous portions of bamboo shoot is on offer.

Interaction at nights with the locals around a bonfire and gaze at the stars to sleep. When we say live like the Nagas, we mean it.

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Kohima!

Stop At: Kohima War Cemetery, 39 Nh, Kohima India
Gather and meet at the entrance/parking space of Kohima War Cemetery

The trip begins here. We meet at Kohima War Cemetery by 11 am. The memorial is one of the key historic sites in Nagaland. It remembers the 917 soldiers who died during the altercation with the Japanese during World War II. It’s a known place in the city and won’t be difficult to find. The photographers in the group can capture the neatly maintained memorial. Perfect place to do aerial photography.

Taste the Naga Cuisine

After exploring the War Cemetery, we head for lunch in the nearby local restaurants to taste the authentic Naga cuisine. Vegetarians can head for pure veg. Yaotsu’s Veggie Table Restaurant, known for delicious South Indian and Chinese cuisine.

Street walk around Kohima local Market and City

Now that all of us ate the hunger away, it’s time to step into the city and explore. A street walk through the city to the markets of Kohima will give you the best chance to flow with the Angami air.

Head to Campsite Yedikha

After the city walk, we head to our campsite in Jakhama village. We will have Sumos/ small cars pick us up and drop at the Campsite. Enjoy the beautiful 30 minutes drive and after settling in the tents, enjoy the view on offer from the campsite, sipping hot laal cha.

Explore the Dzükozwu rice fields of Jakhama-

People who aren’t tired and exhausted from the journey and hungry to explore more can head to the rice fields down the campsite. Watch the sunset, shoot a time-lapse or just seize the moment in your eye.

Sip on some Rice Beer

Have the local fresh made Rice Beer (available on pre-orders only); get high like the Nagas do around the bonfire.

Dine and stargaze

Veg And Non-veg meals for all, sip on some rice beer let the food settle in and stargaze lying down in your tent. A night to remember, to share with your grandkids.

Day 2: The visit to Asia’s first green Village – Khonoma!

Stop At: Khonoma Village, Khonoma India
We start the day with an outdoor breakfast at campsite.
By 9am the vehicles will be ready to pick us and we go to Khonoma via Jotsoma and ride high up to get the most views of Kohima. We shall stop by the memorial of a top Naga Patriot among the numerous ones and enter the scenic legendary village of Khonoma. A village that continue to safeguard its ecosystem and biodiversity through community efforts in conservation and traditional knowledge.

The locally guided village walk upon stone crafted paths, includes a visit to historical forts which prove the ancestors bravery and defence system against enemy & the British since the end of 19th century, traditional houses & gathering places.

Stop for lunch in the village restaurant.

On the way back we shall have a glance of the Catholic Cathedral Kohima while relaxing with a cup of tea/coffee in a view point cafe nearby. After 15 minutes drive we enter the Naga Heritage village Kisama; the main venue of the annual Hornbill Festival.

That is for the day and we will be at the campsite before dark (5pm), not to miss the beautiful view around.
Relax and dine around the bonfire.

Day 3: Say good-bye

Stop At: Kohima, Kohima, Kohima District, Nagaland
Early risers can wake up to see the beautiful sunrise from your tent itself.
After breakfast, the return journey begins. We will drop you off at your hotel in Kohima or Taxi stand to catch your connecting train or flight.
