Journey to the last village of India

In the high lands of Ladakh, there are several hidden places, customs, and natural wonders that are not very popular but they have been part of the local community living there. This tour takes one to such places, spots, and practices where the uniqueness of the destination can be seen and experienced. The communities living in extremely remote regions have recently received the basic facilities such as electricity through Global Himalayan Expeditions' electrification expeditions and that triggered further tourism development. This tour makes arrangements at these authentic homestays and contributes to local income generation.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Leh

Stop At: Leh, Leh, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
Once arrived at an altitude of 12000 ft in Leh, one is only expected to rest and keep drinking water. This day is dedicated to getting the travelers acclimatized so that they continue the journey with good fitness.

Duration: 12 hours

Day 2: Exploring Leh

Stop At: Shanti Stupa Road 500 steps from Changspa Road, Leh 194101 India
To get more used to with the high altitude, we will take go to a place where we can take a bit of a walk with a magnificent view of an entire Leh town. We will visit Shanti Stupa and spot Stok Kangri, Khardung La and a whole Leh town.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Leh Royal Palace, Leh India
After visiting the Shanti Stupa, we will head to see Leh Royal Palace and know about the kingdom that existed in Leh and the lifestyle of the royal Namgyal dynasty.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Leh Market, Main Bazaar Rd, Leh 194101 India
Post sightseeing, the evening would be spent in the nice calm market of Leh town that has lovely cafes and book stores. We will spend some time here before we head back to the hotel

Day 3: Journey beyond the highest mountain pass

Stop At: Khardung La Road, 194101 India
Leaving the Leh town behind, we begin the journey towards Nubra Valley and start gaining more altitude. Crossing the highest motorable mountain pass - Khardung La, we would proceed towards the beautiful villages located in Nubra Valley.
Duration: 8 hours

Stop At: Panamik Hot Spring, Panamik 194401
The exploration of the villages situated on this side of Ladakh mountains would begin from visiting Panamik village. The village is blessed with a unique natural feature of sulfur water springs. On the high altitude and after crossing the highest mountain pass, the hot water spring is nothing less than a luxury.

Day 4: Towards the last village of India

Stop At: Diskit, Diskit, Nubra Valley, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
The second day of exploration begins with the visit to the Diskit monastery that is known for the massive statue of Maitreya Buddha. The Backdrop of brown mountains, Shyok River In Front and the huge structure middle of this makes this place one of its kind.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Siachen Glacier
After visiting the Diskit Monastery, the journey continues to visit the last village of India beyond which the highest battlefield - Siachen Glacier begins. A drive for couple of hours would take us to the village of Warshi that is the last village of Indian territory.
Duration: 4 hours

Day 5: Exploration of Leh town surrounding

Stop At: Alchi Monastary, South Bank of the Indus River 67 kms west of Leh, Alchi India
From this highlands, the journey would begin to go to the other side of the Leh to visit a heritage site that is part of a trio pilgrimage. Alchi is a significant monastery of Ladakh dating back to the 11th century, with beautiful paintings and statues.
Duration: 7 hours

Stop At: Leh, Leh, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
After a long journey to see the hidden heritage of Ladakh, we will head back to the main town. The journey would have a couple of stopovers such as Indus-Zanskar river confluence and Pather Sahib Gurudwara before we come back to the hotel in Leh
