This tour offers a fascinating insight into Mumbai's Jewish community, combined with the major city highlights. We will visit the Sasson Docks, important synagogues, as well as the heritage district and Dhobi Ghat.

The tour includes: Kenneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, the David Sassoon Library, the Shaar Harahamim or Gate of Mercy Synagogue (the oldest synagogue in Mumbai), the Magen David Synagogue, and the Tippereth Israel synagogue of the Bene Israelis. Stop At: Sassoon Dock, Off Cuffe Parade, Mumbai India

We begin our sightseeing, after a brief orientation about the tour from your guide, at Sassoon Docks. These docks were built by an influential family of Baghdadi Jews. You'll see the commotion as the day’s catch is bought and sold. It’s a great introduction to Mumbai’s traditional fisher-folk, an interesting community where the men fish and the women handle the commercial transactions (they are expert negotiators!!).

From Sassoon Docks we drive to Gateway of India and see the Fort Heritage District and the Kala Ghoda Art District.

We briefly visit the Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, city's second oldest Sephardic synagogue.

Next, we will visit the oldest synagogue in Mumbai, the Shaar Harahamim or Gate of Mercy Synagogue, built in 1796, by Samaji Hasaji Divekar (Samuel Ezekiel Divekar), a Bene Israeli.

Next, we see the Magen David Synagogue, a tall blue building with a Gothic feel that towers over all the other buildings in the area.

We continue our tour and visit Dhobi Ghat to see the city’s famous open-air laundry in action.
