Built with a vision to make it the capital city of the them prominent kingdom in the Indian subcontinent, Akbar built Fatehpur Sikri in the year 1571.
The significance of this place elevated post Akbar’s heroic Gujarat campaign. The construction of this city originally began as a religious landmark post the prediction of Jahangir’s birth by a saint. After a couple of years the structure began to take actual shape steadily.
It is situated on a rocky ridge. It is surrounded by walls on 3 sides and fenced by a lake on the fourth. The credit of this city’s architecture is mainly credited to the Timurid style of design. It is built of massive red sandstone. One can also spot major Gujarati influences in the style of décor. It can be reached at through different entrances namely Delhi gate, Chandanpal gate, Tehra gate, The Gwalior gate, the Ajmer gate among the others.
