Itinerary

Day 1: A Guided Tour Around Flores

Stop At: Flores, Flores, Peten Department
Our group tour starts in Flores, a small town located on an island. Flores is best used as a base from which to make daytrips. Tour members would be arriving at different times. Some may be jet lagged while others, not. Feel free to join our guided walking tour around Flores.

Note: Mundo Maya International Airport (IATA: FRS) is just outside Flores and is the only other international airport in the country aside from Guatemala City.

Day 2: Helicopter Ride to El Mirador Archaeological Site

Stop At: El Mirador, Guatemala
Today we should be making a daytrip via a 45-minute helicopter ride to an archeological site called El Mirador. Although containing striking examples of Pre-classic Maya civilization, the remote location of El Mirador has prevented it from becoming a popular tourist site. Get ready for a hike as we discover the area. Lunch is included today. The helicopter should land back in Flores around 3:00pm. Afterwards, we are to see other ancient pyramids in the area. We should be back in Flores after 5:00pm.
*Note that in the event the helicopter company cancels the tour, which happens on occasion due to bad weather, etc., we would offer you a suitable alternative for the day.

Day 3: Watching the Sunset over the Ancient Citadel of Tikal

Stop At: Tikal National Park, Tikal National Park, Peten Department
Today we should be making a daytrip via a 2.5-hour drive to Tikal. Tikal is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centers of the pre-Columbian Maya civilization and one of the country’s greatest tourist draws. Lunch is included today. The guided tour takes about 5 hours. After watching the sunset, we are to head back to Flores.

Day 4: Zip-Lining, Exploring the Jungle & Finally Sunset at Yaxha Pyramid

Stop At: Yaxha, National Park, Peten Guatemala
The first destination for today is Ixpanpajul. Here we are to go zip-lining as well as explore this natural park on foot. Next is lunch, which is included in the price. Following lunch is Yaxha, which is a 1.5-hour drive away from the natural park. The guided tour of this archeological site takes about 5 hours. As we are to walk up pyramids, we ask you not to wear flipflops. After watching the sunset, we are to head back to Flores. We should be back around 8:15pm.

Day 5: Relocate to Panajachel & Visit to Reserva Natural Atitlán (a.k.a. Atitlán Nature Reserve)

Stop At: Panajachel, Panajachel, Lake Atitlan, Solola Department, Western Highlands
Today we fly from Flores through Guatemala City to reach Panajachel. After checking into the hotel, we visit Reserva Natural Atitlán (a.k.a. Atitlán Nature Reserve). It is a 15-minute drive away from the center of town.

Day 6: Exploring Indigenous Villages & (Optional) Paragliding Over Lake Atitlán

Stop At: Lake Atitlan, Lake Atitlan, Solola Department, Western Highlands
Today we are to be taken to the dock in Panajachel. From here, we are to take a boat to explore four traditional villages surrounding Lake Atitlan: Santiago, San Pedro, San Juan and San Marcos. Although the cultures of these villages are influenced by the Maya people, each has its own personality and distinctive indigenous style. Today’s tour ends in Panajachel around 2:30pm. If the weather is good, then consider going paragliding over Lake Atitlán.

Day 7: Chichicastenango Outdoor Market

Stop At: Chichicastenango, Chichicastenango, El Quiche Department
Let’s make a daytrip via a 2.5-hour drive to Chichicastenango, a town popular specifically for its Thursday and Sunday market. Expect to see vendors selling traditional attire, masks, handicrafts, food, flowers, pottery, wooden boxes, condiments, medicinal plants, candles, pom and copal (traditional incense), cal (lime stones for preparing tortillas), pigs and chickens.
Note: If Day 3 of when you begin this tour does not naturally fall on a Thursday or Sunday (when the market is open), then other fun arrangements would be made for you. Don't worry!

Day 8: Sunrise Hike, Kayaking on Lake Atitlán & Relocating to Colonial Antigua

Stop At: Lake Atitlan, Lake Atitlan, Solola Department, Western Highlands
We start the day by taking a 30-minute hike to a viewpoint called Indian Nose, specifically to watch the sunrise over Lake Atitlán. Next on the agenda is a 2.5-hour kayak tour. The day ends with us being taken via a 3-hour drive to colonial Antigua, where our rooms are located.

Day 9: Filadelfia Coffee Resort & Visiting an Active Complex Volcano

Stop At: Pacaya Volcano, Antigua 05001 Guatemala
We start the day by being taken via a 15-minute drive to the Filadelfia Coffee Resort & Tours. Here we can see how local coffee is grown. Afterwards, we are to be taken via a 1-hour drive to an active complex volcano called Pacaya. It’s worth the 2-hour hike to reach the top. We should be back in Antigua around 8:00pm.

Day 10: Exploring Colonial Antigua

Stop At: Antigua, Antigua, Sacatepequez Department
Surrounded by 3 enormous volcanoes and mountains and otherwise famous for its well-preserved Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture as well as a number of colonial-era landmarks, this town is unarguably Guatemala’s most beautiful. Antigua was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. There is no need for a guided tour today. Simply wander aimlessly. Antigua is very compact and easy to walk around. Most tourist attractions are located in an 8-by-8 block area, less than 1 kilometer across.

Day 11: Our Tour Ends This Morning

Stop At: Guatemala City, Guatemala City, Guatemala Department
Antigua is the final destination on our group tour of Guatemala. The capital of Guatemala, where the international airport is located, takes about an hour to reach by shuttle from Antigua. A shuttle will be arranged for you to reach the airport.
Note that if you wish to stay longer in Antigua, we would change the date of your shuttle pickup. Simply let us know in advance.
