Pass By: Santiago, Santiago, Santiago Metropolitan Region

We will travel from Santiago to the Andes Mountains, through the Cajon del Maipo, to recognize the main geological attractions. The objective is to appreciate the natural environment and understand why the mountain range exists and how the depression that Santiago is home to is formed. The tour includes the recognition of Fallas, Landslides, Volcanoes and Glaciers from Santiago.

Pass By: Maipo Valley, Maipo Valley, Santiago Metropolitan Region

We will see the Maipo Valley from the Camino, to see the different geological units, including The San José Volcano, fossiliferous layers of the age of dinosaurs, glaciers, active faults, etc.

Stop At: San Jose de Maipo, San Jose de Maipo, Santiago Metropolitan Region

We will pass through San José de Maipo, a city built on river and alluvial deposits, where the hills show the folds of tectonic deformation, and active landslides fall on the city.

Pass By: Cajon del Maipo, Cajon del Maipo, Santiago Metropolitan Region

We will travel through the Cajon del Maipo, touring the main Geo Tourist Sites of this Valley, including Fallas, Glaciers, Volcanoes, Intrusives, Volcanic Deposits and the folds of the rocks.

Stop At: Camino al Volcan, Cajon del Maipo, San Jose de Maipo Chile

We will travel the Way to the Volcano, from where they go folds, Active Faults, Intrusive (plutons and sills), Glaciers and active Volcanoes.

Pass By: El Canelo, El Canelo, Santiago Metropolitan Region

In Canelo we will observe anticline and syncline folds, the effect of tectonic shortening. We will also recognize a large mass removal that is currently populated.

Stop At: San Gabriel, San Gabriel, San Jose de Maipo, Santiago Metropolitan Region

In San Gabriel we will see a 13 Ma pluto, a body of magma that crystallized below the earth's surface and today represents a 700 m vertical cliff. We will also see a 250 thousand year volcanic deposit from the south of the San José Volcano, which covered the valley, leaving a thickness of 300m in this town.

In San Alfonso we will recognize the anticline and duplex folds, as an effect of the shortening and rising of the Andes mountain range.

Stop At: Camino Embalse El Yeso, San Jose de Maipo Chile

We will visit El Yeso Reservoir, an artificial reservoir from where you can see Glaciers, Fallas, Intrusive Rocks and Mass Removals.
