Salar de Uyuni - 4 days

The Uyuni Salt Flats tour is one of the greatest attractions of Bolivia. We will depart from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, and for 4 days we will travel through a very diverse Andean landscape, passing through the Salvador Dalí desert, the Polque hot springs, the field of geysers, the spectacular high plateau lagoons, the Eduardo Avaroa natural park and ending in the great Salar de Uyuni, where we will also have opportunity to experience one of the most magical sunrises that exist. The views of the white salt desert will leave you speechless.

Itinerary

Day 1: Chile/Bolivia border - Lagoons - Salvador Dalí Desert - Hot Springs - Geysers Fields - Laguna Colorada (Red Lagoon)

Pass By: San Pedro de Atacama, San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region
The guide will pick you up at your accommodation in San Pedro de Atacama at 6:30 in the morning. Once all your fellow travellers are picked up you will board the minibus that will take you to the Bolivian border. You will then get your passports stamped and enter the seven-seater 4x4 to start your adventure.

Stop At: Salvador Dali Desert, Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve Bolivia
The first stop of your tour will be the White and Green Lagoons. These are the first of the unique lakes you will visit and that are spread throughout the salt flats. Afterwards, you will head to the Salvador Dalí Desert, a big high plateau surrounded by impressive mountains. The name is well chosen, since we face a panorama that reminds us of some of the famous artist paintings.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Aguas Termales de Polques, Next to Cerro Faldajara, Uyuni Bolivia
You will continue your tour along the path to the thermal baths of Polque, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy a bath in natural thermal water while the temperature outside is a little low, it is a very relaxing experience.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Geiser Sol de la Manana, Avaroa National Reserve, Uyuni Bolivia
The next stop is the field of geysers named Sun of the Morning. It is full of fumaroles and small geysers that create a unique landscape where we can feel the strength of nature.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Laguna Colorada, Laguna Colorada, Potosi Department
Finally, we will arrive at Laguna Colorada (the Red Lagoon), one of the most spectacular lagoons in the whole Plateau, next to which we will have dinner and spend the night in a hostel.
Duration: 2 hours

Day 2: The Valley of Rocks - Lagoons - Canyons of Inca and Sora - Andean fauna

Stop At: Bolivia, Bolivia
You will have breakfast at 8 o’clock in the morning and then you will visit The Valley of Rocks. This place is well known for the large number of peculiar natural formations. You'll continue your route between the different lagoons until you reach the Vinto and the Kanal lagoons, where you will take a short break before you continue your journey to the Inca and Sora canyons.

Stop At: Bolivia, Bolivia
On the way to your accommodation you will be able to observe the unique Andean landscape and especially the diverse wildlife, where you will see flocks of llamas, vicuñas, alpacas, and solitary foxes. In the evening, you will go to your hostel where you will have dinner and rest.

Day 3: Uyuni Salt Flats - Incahuasi Island - Train Cemetery - Salt Mines - Colchani

Stop At: Salar de Uyuni, Uyuni Bolivia
After waking up at 5 o'clock you will have breakfast.Then you will begin making your way to the Salar, where you will get to see one of the most magical dawns in the world.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Isla Incahuasi, Bolivia
With the surge of daylight you will be able to see the vastness of the desert and experience a truly unique moment. After this memorable view you will make your first stop on the island Incahuasi, a small mountain populated with giant cacti. You will continue on the path to see “the eyes of the salar”, small holes up to two meters deep filled with water that alter the landscape.

Stop At: Salar de Uyuni, Uyuni Bolivia
In the salt mines you will learn how the extraction and refinement process of the salt from the area is done. The processed local salt is also used to make different figures which are sold in the town of Colchani. It is not only a small town, but also the next stop on your journey where the “salt museum” is located.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Colchani, Colchani, Potosi Department
You will go to the town of Colchani and the Train Cemetery before resuming your trip to Uyuni town. Here you will stop for two hours to eat and rest before starting your way back to San Pedro. Your last stop of the day will be at the Villa Mar, where you will also have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Villa Mar - Bolivia/Chile Border - San Pedro de Atacama

Stop At: San Pedro de Atacama, San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region
It will be an early morning as you will wake up at 5 o’clock to start making your way back to San Pedro. The first journey lasts four hours until you reach the Bolivian border again. Here you will have your last opportunity to say goodbye to the incredible landscapes you have visited so far.
Duration: 4 hours

Pass By: San Pedro de Atacama, San Pedro de Atacama, Antofagasta Region
You will get your passport stamped at the border. On the Chilean side, a mini bus will be waiting for you to take you on the last stretch of your trip. You will then safely arrive in San Pedro town around 12:30 pm.
