Cahal Pech, which means “Place of the Ticks”, in Mayan language, sits atop a steep hill that overlooks the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. Your guide will tell you more about this site, which is believed to have been first settled around 1200 BC. From the structures of site, you can see that its inhabitants were rather sophisticated people. They built circular platforms used for ceremonial purposes, housing structures that resemble modern houses, and a ball court, which are all in amazing condition after thousands of years.
