Victoria Falls - Cape Town Accommodated

The Victoria Falls, Okavango Delta, Sand Dunes, Sossusvlei, Etosha National Park, Chobe National Park and Fish River Canyon are some of the most extraordinary travel destinations Africa has to offer, and they are included in this trip. Combined with Cederberg Mountains, Bushmen engravings in Twyfelfontein and the Bushmen villages in Tsintsabis, this makes for a comprehensive trip to one of Africa's most fascinating and diverse regions.

Itinerary:

Day1. Victoria Falls
Your trip starts in the afternoon with a pre departure meeting with your tour leader. In the late afternoon we shall visit the mighty Victoria Falls for a guided tour. You will also be assisted in booking optional activities for the following day.

Day 2. Victoria Falls
Today we spend the day at leisure. Your program for the day is dependent on your chosen activities. Adventure activities range from white water rafting, bungy jumping to walking safaris; the list is endless. If adrenalin activities are too much for you, how about afternoon tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel!

Day 3. Chobe National Park
Today we head for the famous Chobe National Park. Watch out for elephants as we drive along. On arrival we will embark on a late afternoon game drive into Chobe National Park.

Day 4. Chobe National Park
Today we have an early morning game drive in Chobe National Park and afternoon boat ride on the Chobe River where it is possible to see huge herds of elephant and hippo as well as many other types of game coming down to drink. Bird life is fantastic, fish eagles, kingfishers and a number of other species are inhabitants of this river.

Day 5. Okavango Delta Pan Handle
Today we drive through the Kaprivi Strip to the northern parts of the Okavango Delta. In the afternoon on our way to our camp for the night, we make a stop at the Popa Falls for a tour of the falls. We then proceed to our camp, which is downstream from the falls.

Day 6. Okavango Delta Pan Handle
Today we have the opportunity to embark on mokoros (dug out canoes) and explore the Okavango Delta Pan handle. There is prolific bird life here, and at certain times of year because it is a more open area, we have a good chance of seeing game. There is also an opportunity to visit a local village and meet the community. In the afternoon, we go on a game drive.

Day 7. Tree Sleepers, Tsintsabis
Today we leave the Kavango area behind us, and head for Tsintsabis. At Tsintsabis we have the opportunity to visit the Bushmen villages and learn how these amazing people have survived for thousands of years in one of the harshest landscape on earth.

Day 8. Etosha National Park
Leaving the Bushmen behind, we head for Etosha National Park, entering the park through Namutoni Gate, we can stop at the campsite, for some refreshments before going on our afternoon game drive if time permits. Etosha is a large park (22000 sqkm) based around a huge salt pan, which some claim, can be seen from space. The campsites in Etosha are well equipped and boast floodlit waterholes for viewing game at night.

Day 9. Etosha National Park
Today we have time to really enjoy this fabulous game park. The park is home to a great variety of game, which is easy to find as the animals congregate at different
times around the waterholes. There are waterholes next to the
excellent campsites, and it is not uncommon for us to spend all night watching a gala performance of animals: wildebeest, zebra, impala, springbok, kudu, elephant, giraffe, lion and even rhino are all common sights here. Take plenty of film and lots of patience and you will be rewarded by one of the greatest game spectacles in Southern Africa. The park is also a good place for bird watching with plenty of water birds on the lakes, weaverbirds and hornbills in the trees.

Day 10. Etosha National Park
While still in Etosha, we move our camp from Namutoni to Okaukuejo. The day is spent game driving towards Okaukuejo with a lunch stop in Halali. Depending on where the game is, our itinerary is kept flexible while in Etosha, we may spend our three nights in the park in either Okaukuejo, Halali or Namutoni. These camps also offer optional night game drives which you can book and pay for on arrival.

Day 11. Twyfelfontein
On the way to twyfelfontein we will stop for shopping in Outjo, which boasts an excellent cake shop. Outjo is the unofficial capital of the Herero people and we may be lucky enough to see the Herero ladies in their traditional Victorian dresses. From here we will pay a brief visit to the Petrified Forest before heading to Twyfelfontein. Famous for its rock engravings, we will spend a couple of hours on a guided walk here before heading to the campsite for sunset.

Day 12. Swakopmund
Leaving rock paintings behind us, we drive towards the stark Skeleton Coast visiting the seal colony at Cape Cross. This gives a wonderful opportunity to take some close up shots of the hundreds of seals frolicking and fishing in the nearby surf. If the wind is blowing the wrong way it is not always the best place for lunch. In the afternoon, we reach the 100 years old city of Swakopmund, dotted with historic buildings such as the lighthouse and the old station. The museum gives an overview of the history, flora, and fauna of Namibia.

Day 13. Swakopmund
Today adventurers may partake in optional activities such as quad biking, sand boarding, skydiving, dolphin cruises, deep-sea fishing, township tours etc. Some can explore the historic town and coastline or just relax by the pool.

Day 14. Sossusvlei, Namib National Park
On the way we make a quick stop at the coast of Walvis Bay, were you will find flamingos and pelicans (Dependent on the season). Afterwards we leave the coastline and make our way towards inland to Sossusvlei. Our drive passes through the dramatic lunar landscape of the Namib National Park, past Kuiseb canyon where you can see traces of glaciers. This is in complete contrast to the empty gravel plains, which we would have driven through before.

Day 15. Sossusvlei, Namib National Park
Today we wake up early to explore one of the absolute highlights of the trip. An early morning climb into the famous dune 45 to witness the desert sunrise. This is of the not to be missed experiences of a lifetime. It is also worthwhile to do a walk with a local guide who can tell you much about the remarkable flora and fauna, the San (Bushmen) who formerly lived here, and how you can survive in the desert. Late afternoon we visit the Sesriem canyon.

Day 16. Fish River Canyon
The drive to Fish River Canyon is too long but also too beautiful to do on one day. In the late afternoon we set up camp in one of the most colourful, varied, and lonely rocky deserts in the world. In the afternoon, we drive to Fish River Canyon, which drops dramatically away from the surrounding land. At 90 km long, 27 km at it’s widest and up to 549 m deep, it is the second largest canyon in the world. 10 km drive past our camping grounds we take a hike along the rim of the canyon and enjoy a sundowner at the viewpoint of the canyon, then drive back to camp.

Day 17. Orange River
Today we take a short drive to Orange River, which borders South Africa and Namibia; we camp on the banks of the Orange River. This afternoon you have time for a half-day canoe trip on the Orange River (optional).

Day 18. Cederberg Mountains
Today we cross the border into South Africa and travel to Cederberg Mountains, a beautiful hiking area with valleys, impressive rock formations, waterfalls and caves. In addition to the beautiful scenery, you may perhaps see baboons, rock dassies and klipspringers. Along the way to Cederburg Mountains we make a stop in Namaqualand to take a peak on the beautiful wild flowers of Namaqualand (seasonal).

Day 19. Cederberg Mountains
Today you can venture into the mountains (optional) or relax by the river. Activities available are bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, rock painting tour, wine testing, and star gazing.

Day 20. Cape Town
Today we leave the mountains and head to Capetown. If the weather permits, in the late afternoon we may have an opportunity to visit Table Mountain. Capetown houses some of the best restaurants in Southern Africa. Your tour leader may suggest a lovely restaurant for a group dinner.

Day 21. Cape Town
Depending on whether we managed to visit Table mountain the previous day, todays activities shall include Table Mountain, a visit to Cape Point via chapmen’s peak drive, to Boulders Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town and a visit to several wine estates to sample taste some wine.
In the evening, we have another opportunity to try out one of the many restaurants in the city.

Day 22. Capetown
Tour ends this morning.
