What Exactly is Spyware?
Spyware is software which takes information from your system without your knowledge or consent. There are numerous types of spyware available including Trojans, Advertiser software, Web Bugs, and Stand-Alone Commercial Computer Monitoring software.Trojans are programs which are placed on your system by tricking you similar to the story of the trojan horse.
Web Bugs are ActiveX controls and/or cookies that track what you do online from web sites.

Commercial PC Monitoring software is spy software sold for use by bosses, identity thieves, spouses, private investigators, X's and others for one purpose: to record everything you do on your PC for later retrieval. Stand-alone computer monitoring spy software and remote administration products are different, however. Most remote administration products (PC Anywhere, etc) are not stealthy and can be stopped by the user on the hosts end. Software with Remote Admin capabilities can easily be stopped in their tracks by a simple firewall, and we would not consider this type of product to be potentially dangerous as it is generally considered spy-software-free, meaning once again, it is not stealthy.
