Vietnam Cycling 13 Days Trip

This 13 day biking tour will take you through the best part of natural Vietnam rural areas. Most of places will be discovered on your pedal. Throughout the inspiring natural scenery from North, Central and South Vietnam to discover the diverse culture, challenge yourself in the natural way. This bike route will definitely designed for bikers from moderate biking level up. Our guide will coordinate with local people to make the trip so closely and be a local way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Hanoi

Stop At: Ha Noi Airport Rental, Hanoi 100000 Vietnam
Arriving at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel. You’ll have time to relax after your journey. You’ll spend the night in Hanoi.

Day 2: Ancient Villages for Picturesque Photographs and Historical Journey

Stop At: Bat Trang Moment - pottery workshop, 53/104 Tran Khanh Du, Dakao ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City 70000 Vietnam
This morning you depart for Nom Village which is close to Hanoi, about 40km away. Not many people know this antique village which is more than 200 years old, leaving it intact and beautiful on its own. Setting foot in from of this place, you can catch an image of open old gate under green trees that let them feeling nostalgic and peaceful. You will see the 100 year banyan tree, fresh – water well, curved – roof of temple, red brick house of market and the special rock bridge always welcome visitors. One landscape that you must travel if arriving this village is Nom Pagoda, which owns lots of characteristics of a traditional Buddhism architecture in Vietnam.

After that, your guide will arrive to take you to Bat Trang, a handicraft village, 13 km south –east of Hanoi. Bat Trang is renowned for its hand-made ceramics and pottery kilns for almost 500 years. Upon arrival you’ll walk along a country lane with stops to visit two kilns: traditional and modern, where you can see the whole process of how a product is made both ways. You can try shaping clay or painting in some raw items with time also to meet and talk to the ceramic artisans. Enjoy the lunch at an ancient house in the village.

After lunch, you’ll walk to a local ferry. They will pick you up to the other side of Red River to Thuy Linh Village which has been growing and supplying vegetables to the capital city for a hundred years. When the ferry lands, visitors are continuing the trip by bike on the countryside view. You’ll enjoy the peaceful scenery of the rural area, taking photos of enormous organic vegetable fields and fruits farm. Stopping by here to taste season fruits and to take pictures while you have a chit – chat with local people. Then you will be directed to a local market. The host will also aid you in choosing materials for your cooking course. Heading to a local house where the cooking class is waiting for you!

Alongside with the guidance from the host, you will start to learn cooking with the set menu and prepared ingredients for one Vietnamese specialty. This cookery course not only is a show, but also a reality experience because you yourself cook your own food from the preparation to the finish.

Lastly, you will enjoy your handmade food in an exploring space, sharing and happiness. In the late afternoon, you’ll return to Hanoi for your overnight accommodation.

Day 3: Hanoi/Hue – vespa scooter to explore the local street food

Stop At: Hue Imperial City (The Citadel), Hue Vietnam
The time will be yours before having your flight to Hue – the nostalgic city where you’ll check in the hotel.

At 05:30pm: Our guide and Vespa rider will meet you at the hotel and ready for the funny trip. There are some minutes for our tour guide briefs about the tour so you can get yourself prepared for a wide variety of Hue specialties before departure. You’ll then start the tour with a Vespa ride coming through Hue City known as “ancient capital” on the charming and less traveled streets. Your vespa scooter takes you to our hand- picked local family run venues that serve the best authentic Hue foods including the following dishes:

1. Nem Lụi & Banh Khoai - Hue Lemongrass Skewer with vegetable and rice paper & “Banh Khoai” –Hue sizzling pancake with a special sauce. The local restaurant is located inside Hue Citadel

2. Hue Cakes: We stop at the local family run venue and taste Hue Cakes including various cakes with different fish sauces.

3. Bún Bò Huế. We enjoy the famous beef noodle soup in Vietnam “Bún Bò Huế”. The soup is paired with tender slices of beef and pork, topped with lots of green onions and fresh herbs.

4. Hue Dessert: Enjoy one of the following kinds of dessert:
- HueRoyal wine from herbal medicine
- Local beer
- “Chè Huế” Sweet bean soup

After that, we shall ride back to your hotel where you’ll spend your night.

Day 4: Cycling in Hue

Stop At: Thien Mu Pagoda, Kim Long Road, Hue Vietnam
In the morning, you’ll cruise on the Perfume River to Hue’s best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda (famous in Vietnam for the protests against the communists at the time of the American war). From there, you’ll collect your bicycles to ride through Hue’s rural villages towards the Royal Tombs of Emperor Tu Duc. From there, you'll cycle along a country lane to one of the handicraft villages in Hue’s hinterland that specialises in a single product range of ‘Huong Tram’ (incense sticks) village. Lunch will be at another garden house where the owner will prepare and serve a traditional meal based on the distinctive characteristics of classic Hue cuisine.

In the afternoon, you’ll return to the city by car to visit the Imperial Citadel of Hue, followed by a visit to the garden house. The present owner, a famous Hue historian, will welcome you and provide an introduction to his own royal family history, and Hue’s traditions and customs. In the evening, you’ll sit down for dinner in the pleasant surroundings and a comfortable atmosphere of the feature restaurant. You’ll spend the night in Hue.

Day 5: Hue/Hoi An

Stop At: Hoi An Ancient Town, Hoi An 560000 Vietnam
A classic day cycling, ride as much or as little as desired. You’ll drive by bus beyond the city limits of Hue 18km (or 2O minutes) out to the coast before beginning the ride off the beaten track for 40km along a picturesque, very narrow peninsular road from Thuan An beach to Vinh Loc. Cycle in the shade of coconut trees, stop to explore the hundreds of ancestral tombs scattered in the large sand dunes. At the end of the peninsular, hop on a local ferry to cross the estuary of the Perfume River and ride a further 11km along this spectacular trail to loop to Highway 1. From here there is no other option but to hit the highway. Transfer or cycle the start of today’s three hill climbs! After the first two moderate climbs of 2-3km a piece, cruise down to stunning Lang Co Beach for a rest/ swim and lunch before tackling the final hill of the day – the Hai Van or Pass of Ocean Clouds. Now that the new tunnel through the mountain is completed the 11km of uphill will be on a very quiet section of highway. The gradient is manageable and the views breathtaking! You’ll then be transferred the rest of the way to Hoi An, a delightful old trading town and UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll spend the night in Hoi An.

Day 6: Cycling to the rural countryside Hoi An

Stop At: Hoi An Ancient Town, Hoi An 560000 Vietnam
Today, our guide will pickup you at your hotel and take you to join the cycling to discover the real Vietnam which will be a combination of bicyle tour and discover of Vietnamese culture and way of life

You’ll have a boat to cruise along the Thu Bon river around one hour to see the peaceful scenery along the Old town. You’ll then you will arrive at a small village in the middle of the delta where you will begin your cycling tour.

The biking distant will be around 14 km across the countryside and the rice fields. On the pedal you’ll be passing from Island to Island via the unique bridges made from wood and bamboo. After that a short boat will bring you to the small island to enjoy the local lunch in the local family to recover for a while.

After lunch, another 9 km cycling will take you to will take you to discover how wooden river boats are made, learn the secret of weaving the colorful straw “Hoi An” sleeping mats Try the renowned Vietnamese basket boats. You will spend the day with first-hand contact with one of the rural inhabitants of the region, far from the usual tourist circuit. After that, you’ll get back to the hotel around 5pm and spend your night.

Day 7: Hoi An River Life Cycling and River Life by Paddle

Stop At: Hoi An Ancient Town, Hoi An 560000 Vietnam
After breakfast, our guide will pick you up from your hotel with bicycles and you will set off directly from here towards Duy Vinh Commune. The picturesque cycling route is highlighted with rice fields, local gardens and markets. Stop as often as you wish for taking photographs or some easy chat with locals (using our guide as a translator). There is also time to pay a visit to a local family who are still practicing the craft of weaving sedge mattresses using traditional techniques.

After around 1.5 hour cycling it is time to hop into a kayak for some time on the river. You will paddle towards Cam Thanh coco palm forest. The area is a unique mangrove ecosystem to Hoi An and the scenery is spectacular. To end an active morning, your lunch will be served at a local house with tasty Vietnamese food. Take as much time for relaxing as you wish before getting a transfer back to your hotel.

Day 8: Hoi An/Danang/Ho Chi Minh City

Stop At: Ho Chi Minh City Museum, 65 Ly Tu Trong, Ben Nghe ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City 70000 Vietnam
You’ll be free in the morning until your car and driver arrive to take you to Danang airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. When you arrive, a private car will be waiting to take you to your hotel in the city centre. After checking in, you’ll be free for a preliminary wander around District 1. Your overnight will be in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 9: Cu Chi tunnels Biking tour

Stop At: Cu Chi Tunnels, Phu Hiep TL15 Phu Hiep, Ho Chi Minh City 700000 Vietnam
This morning your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and ready for your discover on the pedal to Cu Chi tunnels.

You will be at Cu Chi, a quality mountain bikes with helmets are ready for you to start the exciting road trip of 25 to 30 km. You will ride the back roads and hidden dirt trails to escape the crowds and bus tourists and to see the real Southern Vietnam. You will have a light snack after finishing a half of the cycling trip.

You will explore Cu Chi Tunnels, which includes weapon and booby trap exhibitions, navigating authentic Viet Cong tunnel system, visiting different underground bunkers (kitchens, meeting rooms, ammunitions etc.), a firing range and much more. Try the local cassava root that sustained Viet Cong fighters for years. Box Lunch will be served, you will depart Cu Chi and return to Ho Chi Minh City by air conditioned van. You will spend the night in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh City/Tan An/Ben Tre/Tra Vinh Biking

Stop At: Vinh Trang Temple, Nguyen Trung Truc, My Tho Vietnam
After escaping from Ho Chi Minh City’s urban sprawl, you’ll travel to Long An Province by support van with your professional cycling guide. Arriving at the small delta town of Tan An, you’ll take out your bicycles and start your tour on quiet back roads heading toward My Tho. You’ll cycle along small lanes with peaceful villages, orchards, and buffalo herds alongside. You’ll pass over narrow bridges and see the real life of rural towns. A box lunch will be served along the way. If time permits, we’ll call in at the beautiful and ancient Vinh Trang Pagoda. Our support car will then take you to Ben Tre where you’ll continue biking along zigzagging pathways through coconut groves, past thatched houses and, local schools to Tra Vinh for a chance to relax after enjoying the vibrant, rural scenery along your route. Arriving in Tra Vinh in the late afternoon, you’ll have time to refresh yourself at the hotel and the remainder of the day is your free time.

Day 11: Tra Vinh/Can Tho Biking

Stop At: Ong Pagoda (Chua Ong), Dien Bien Phu Street, Ward 2, Tra Vinh 90000 Vietnam
Your day will begin by cycling to visit several attractions in Tra Vinh: the Khmer Minority People’s Museum and Ong Met Pagoda, a large Khmer Pagoda with an antique structure; and Ba Om Pond with its magnificent lotus flowers. You’ll then leave for Can Tho. The route will pass by paddy fields and rural scenery. The quiet road winds through villages and fruit gardens, with delicious aromas and lush verdant colours making for a memorable biking experience. You’ll stop by to chat with some locals, with our guide’s help, and enjoy the sweetness of fresh coconut or other seasonal fruits – no matter the season there are always fresh fruits available in the Mekong Delta. You’ll pass over small bridges and take in the peaceful scenery. If you’re lucky you can catch a local activity such as a cock fight, or visit a vegetable farm to see, and join in if you wish, the daily work of the farmers planting and watering vegetables. Today’s distance is a bit longer, but you may cycle as much or as little as you wish; our support van is always nearby when you need a break. Upon arrival at Tra On, you’ll board a boat for a relaxing and scenic voyage up the Tra On River to join the Mekong and proceed to Ninh Kieu Port at Can Tho City, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel for the night.

Day 12: Can Tho/Cai Rang - Phong Dien floating market/Ho Chi Minh City

Stop At: Phong Dien Floating Market, Can Tho 92000 Vietnam
After breakfast you board a boat and cruise to Cai Rang floating market on the Mekong River, then on to Phong Dien floating market. Both the journey and the markets provide an unvarnished look at the rural Mekong Delta lifestyle. You’ll be eye to eye with all the activity, with hundreds of big and small boats exchanging goods and turning the mighty Mekong into floating farmer’s markets which you can compare. If you like, join a local on a small rowboat to chat and explore narrow channels along the river for great photo shooting opportunities. After that, you’ll disembark at My Khanh Village to cycle around the Phong Dien area. You will bike along the canal system to see the real life of local people. The paths lead you over small bridges and past fruit gardens and ancient tombs shaded by the dense, green trees along the route. You’ll stop for lunch at a local house before drive back to the city.

Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City Departure
