Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Jennings Brewery, Castle Brewery, Cockermouth CA13 9NE England

Founded in the village of Lorton (situated between Keswick and Cockermouth) in 1828 by John Jennings, son of William Jennings who was a Maltster by trade. With the business outgrowing its home-brewed origins in Lorton and a need for larger maltings and a building to house larger fermenting vessels, a move into the nearest town of Cockermouth was made. There no longer exists any Jennings connection with the business. As the only independent brewer in Cumbria, saw the acquisition of Jennings Brewery by Marston’s PLC in 2005. Plans were very quickly put in
place to further invest in the brewery, which was very much linked to the potential volume growth of the beers. Today, pure Lakeland water is still used for brewing, drawn from the brewery’s own well.

Stop At: The Lakes Distillery, Bassenthwaite Lake, Bassenthwaite, Keswick CA13 9SJ England

Opened in December 2014 on its idyllic rural site near Bassenthwaite, with a Visitor Centre, artisan bar and bistro, plus a shop selling distillery products as well as locally produced goods. At the Visitor Centre you can find out how the Lakes Malt, Lakes Gin and Lakes Vodka are made, and have a tour of the site including the still room and the distillery’s warehouse where the whisky matures. The distillery is based at a refurbished model farm. The main barn houses the mash house and still house, with unique stills carefully designed to produce the spirits on a small artisan scale. An old cattle shed has been converted into the warehouse, with further cattle sheds being transformed into the shop, bistro and bar.

In 2006 the brewery relocated to the Mill Yard, alongside the River Kent at Staveley, brewing on a new 20 barrel brewhouse and built a brewery tap - The Beer Hall.
