A special tour to the first Mennonite colony in Ukraine Chortitza that was founded in 1789 near the Khortitsa Island (Zaporozhye). Starting from Chortitza many German Mennonites colonies appeared in Southern and Central Ukraine. The Mennonite community had been living here for 150 years and in the end of 19th century became the true leader of agricultural development and industrial growth of the region.
Unfortunately, we've almost lost all mentions about that great and such historically important community in Ukraine, but now it's time to get to know more about Ukrainian Mennonites story.
During the tour you will visit the Mennonites church, Ladies College, Kindergarten, buildings of manufactories and hospital. Professional historian will tell about life, traditions and the last years of Mennonite community in Ukraine. You will also see the biggest collection of the Mennonites grave stones in Ukraine that were digged out and contain the true story of Ukrainian Mennonites in names.
