2 Days Birding Tour in Entebbe

This 2 Days tour takes you birding in Entebbe and Mabamba Wetland in Uganda. The Mabamba bay is identified as an important Birding Area and also renowned for hosting the rare Shoebill Stork as well as famously blessed with a variety of bird species. Mabamba Islands has grown into one of the most interesting and spectacular tourist sites for birding and a part from Murchison Falls National Park, Mabamba is the only place rated as the best in Africa or in the world where the elusive shoebill can be easily spotted in its natural state. Apart from the rare shoebill, there are many other bird species to see on this tour.

Itinerary

Day 1: Day 1: Birding in Entebbe’s UWEC & Botanical Gardens

Stop At: Entebbe Botanic Gardens, Berkely Rd, Entebbe Uganda
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be picked by our representative from your hotel/lodge of residence. Our first stop over will be at Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, home to orphaned & captive animals with over 170 species of birds. These include 7 species of weavers, such as the rare Northern Masked Weaver and Orange Weaver, Kingfishers, Sunbirds etc. There after we shall have lunch and later proceed to Entebbe Botanical Gardens with over 150 bird species, here you will look out for the Bare faced-go away bird, Great Blue and Ross’s Turacos, Red Chested, Klaas’s and Diederik Cuckoo, Great Reed Warbler, Fain Tailed Widow bird, Striped, Malachite, Giant, Woodland and Pygmy Kingfishers, Black Bishop, Grey Woodpecker, Olive, Olive bellied, Red chested, superb, Copper etc. Later in the evening return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Day 2: Mabamba Island & the Search for Shoebills

Stop At: Mabamba Swamp Bird Watching, Kasanje, Mabamba, Uganda
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Mabamba Swamp, 50 kms west of Kampala. Here expect to look out for many different birds on our way to the swamp like the Papyrus Gonolek, White Shouldered Tit, Red Cap, Western Banded Snake Eagle, White Winged Warbler, White Spotted Fluftail and Weyns Weaver. This Swamp is one of the best places to spot the exceptional Shoebill Stork but also many other species can be found here, like the Allen’s and Purple Gallinule, Grey herons, Jacanas, Ruffaus Bellied Heron, Squaco, Purple and Goliath Heron, the Globally threatened Pallid Harrier and Blue Swallow a migrant species, a variety of egrets, ducks etc. The best way to enjoy the rich bird life is by canoe and you might even have the luck to encounter the elusive Sitatunga Antelope, adapted to swampy habitats. We shall later have our packed lunch as we still enjoy the birds.

Later in the evening you either catch up your flight or return to your hotel.
