Trincomalee

Located on the north east of Sri Lanka, Trincomalee is known to have one of the finest and the third largest natural harbours in the world. Trinco, as it’s more affectionately known, is most popular for its stunning beaches of Nilaveli, Uppuveli and the thriving waters of Pigeon Island. Travellers can partake in snorkeling and diving, as the waters around Trinco are thriving with a variety of marine life - it’s also known to be a great place for whale and dolphin watching. History buffs can take a walk back in time while exploring the ruins of Fort Frederick, the

Koneswaram Temple and the numerous ancient temples around the area.
• Visit Trincomalee natural harbour

The Trincomalee harbour is considered to be the third largest natural harbour in the world. The seaport has been a strategically important location through Sri Lanka’s history, where many battles were fought to control it. Trincomalee is most famous for 3 bays, Dutch bay, Back bay and the inner harbour.
• Visit Koneswaram temple

Situated on the edge of a high, rocky cliff, the temple is surrounded by the endless sea on all three sides. The temple, along with its religious artefacts were destroyed in 1622 during a battle. However, as the years went on, much of it has been restored, and inside the temple, you’ll find shrines and gold and bronze statues of deities.
• Visit Fort Frederick

Built by the Portuguese during their invasion, Fort Frederick is also referred to as the Trincomalee Fort. It was later occupied and fortified by the Dutch, French and finally the British. Stroll through the expansive gardens within the fort as you learn about the historic battles that

took place here.
• After the lunch enjoy Pigeon island boat

One of the main marine national parks in Sri Lanka, Pigeon Island has been protected since 2003, owing to the number of flourishing coral reefs found here. Snorkel through the tropical waters and you’ll find sea turtles, reef sharks, and a rainbow of fish!tour
