Stop At: Santiponce, Santiponce, Province of Seville, Andalucia

Find out about the Roman history of the city of Seville. You leave from the city centre and you follow the course of the river passing by the Torre del Oro and you leave the city behind as you observe the barrio of Triana on the other side of the river. You cross over the river to the Isla de la Cartuja, the area where Expo ´92 was built. You pass through the outlying areas of the city and into open country until you arrive at to the town of Santiponce. Here you will see the Monasterio de San Isidoro del Campo. Apart from its notable exterior and interior architecture it was here that first edition of the Bible in Spanish was translated and printed.

Following on through the old high street of Santiponce you will arrive at the Roman city of Itálica.

Today this is an archeological site of great interest. The city was founded in 206 BC and was of great importance to imperial Rome. It was here that the emperors Trajan and Hadrian were born.
