The volcano Bisoke has a spectacular crater lake. It is simply a 6 – hours hike including the 2 hours descending down to the starting point. Experienced hikers can get to the top of this mountain in a matter of 3 hours or even less and return to the base in about an hour.

Lakes Burera and Ruhondo (Twin Lakes), close to the gorilla-tracking center of Kinigi, are often called neglected gems perhaps because they are among least traveled attractions in Rwanda.

For those with a taste for adventure, a boat trip on Twin Lakes provides the chance to see the five volcanoes and natural features like birds, hammerkops, cranes and lots of kingfishers and herons. You can may book additional tours such as fishing with the locals or experiencing the Rwandan cultural and historical with a traditional community.

The twin lakes (Ruhondo & Burera) area is very scenic, with steep and intensively farmed hills surrounding the pristine dark blue waters. They offer magnificent views over the whole of the Virunga Volcanoes.
