3 Days Gorilla and Golden Monkey Trek

The most famous destination in Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park has become synonymous with mountain gorilla tracking safaris and no visit to the country would be complete without visiting these majestic primates.

The town of Musanze is the hub of Rwanda’s gorilla trekking tourism, with plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants, and is easily accessible on a 2 hour drive from Kigali. Volcanoes National Park’s Headquarters are based in the nearby village of Kinigi, the administrative centre for permits and the place where all visitors gather in the mornings for briefings before starting on their gorilla treks.

Note: Gorillas and Golden Monkey permits are not included but can be purchased on your behalf behalf.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN RWANDA – VOLCANOES NAT PARK

Once you check out of the arrival terminal at the Kigali airport, you’ll be met by a guide from Kawira Safaris for a short meet and greet, thereafter be briefed on your trip. You later leave the airport with and en-route tour of Kigali, get to visit various interesting spots in the city on your way to Ruhengeri area the second largest town in Rwanda, with its stunning backdrop of five volcanic mountains – The Virungas  . Arrive in time for your hotel check in. Dinner and overnight will be at your hotel.

DAY 2: GORILLA TREKKING ADVENTURE

After an early breakfast, you will proceed to the National Park headquarters – Kinigi to meet your guides for the day. After completing our park formalities, we are embark on a once in a life time experience on the gorilla trek tour. Once you spot the gorillas, you are allowed to spend an hour watching your closest long lost cousin. Return to your hotel for lunch and later afternoon at leisure.

DAY 3: GOLDEN MONKEY & RETURN TO KIGALI

After an early breakfast, you will again drive to the park headquarters where you will have briefings and formalities for the golden monkeys trekking. The golden monkeys are rare, beautiful, and distinctive bamboo-associated primates of the blue monkey family and endemic to the Albertine Rift Valley. After golden monkeys trekking, you will have lunch and then enjoy the scenic transfer back to Kigali with onward transfer to the airport for your evening outbound flight.
