Itinerary

Caldeira is a giant volcanic crater with 2 km of diameter and average of 400 meters deep. This was the first place in Azores being classafied as a Natural Reserve.

Caldeira is a very exclusive place because there is a law that as some rules regarding the access to this place. There are the obligation to a special guide on every descent and the maximum people allowed to descent Caldeira is 40 people per day. This law exists to protect the rare species and habitats inside.

You will descent to a volcanic crater in a technical hike on muddy, stip and slippery terrain, which is one of the few places in Faial where you will be able to be inside on the true wild and native azorean forest. To do this you will need 4 o 5 hours and you will be guided by a local guide with a lot of stories to share with you!

Good hiking skills are required to do this. To guarantee the safety of a group, we can quit/cancel the descent if we realize that the group as no enough skills.

But if the group do have enough skills, you will have an unforgettable azorean experience, shared by a borned local guide, on a day that you will remember for the rest of your life!
