Choquequirao Trek 4 days Semiautonomy

The ruins of the Choquequirao are one of the most hidden and unreachable ruins of America. Ruins that are still a mystery for the contemporary history.As a semi-autonomous experience you won't carry on your camping equipment neither your food, you will meet local people and share meals with us, the food will be tasty and varied and you won't pay as much as for a guided tour with horses!

One of the most difficult treks of Peru is the trek to Choquequirao because it gives the possibility of discovering the Andes of Peru starting the trek at 2900 meters above sea level to descend to 1800 m and finally hiking up to 3100 m.

Itinerary

Day 1: Capuliyoc - Rosalina

Stop At: Choquequirao, Peru
You leave Cusco on your own: from the Central Terminal of buses, take one in direction of Abancay. Ask the driver to drop you in Ramal de Cachora. From there you can take a cab to Cachora and then walk to the starting point of the trek) or directly to Capuliyoc. You may leave around 6:30 am to be sure to reach Capuliyoc at midday.

When you arrive in Capuliyoc you will meet Gladys, our friend of this community. You will share the lunch together in her house before starting the trek.

The trek starts at 2900 masl, you will pass by the Mirador de Capuliyoc and start the descend to the river Apurimac on 1800 m where we will pass the first night in the camping of Playa Rosalina. Ask for the base camp of Ritisuyo, your tent with sleeping bags and mattress are waiting for you.

Day 2: Rosalina - Marampata

Stop At: Choquequirao, Peru
After a breakfast around 6 am in Rosalina you can begin the hike at 7 am before the sun begin to be strong. Walk from Rosalina to Marampata, around 5 hours. Arrival for lunch at Marampata, afternoon and dinner at Marampata. Night in the house of Victor and Maribel, the place is called Las Orquideas.

Day 3: Choquequirao ruines

Stop At: Ruinas de Choquequirao, Cachora Peru
The third is a long day. You will wake up early, have breakfast and walk 2 hours between Marampata and Choquequirao. Entry ticket of Choquequirao is not included. Lunch on site or Marampata (you will see it directly with Maribel). Full day exploring the ruins and then you will walk down from Choquequirao to Rosalina (watch out for the night). Dinner and overnight under tents in Rosalina in the same place than the first night.

Day 4: Playa Rosalina - Capuliyoc

Stop At: Choquequirao, Peru
The last day you will have breakfast at Playa Rosalina. After breakfast you hike to reach Capuliyoc and have lunch there with Gladys. You go back in Cusco or elsewhere by your own. There usually various van which drop their tourists in Capuliyoc and return empty to Cusco, you can bargain a price directly with the driver or do the same way as the one to go (colectivo + cab).
