Stop At: Musee Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech, Rue Yves Saint Laurent, Marrakech 40090 Morocco

The new Musée Yves Saint Laurent is closed on Wednesday.
The French fashion designer spent a lot of time in Marrakech during his life. Around a thousand items from Saint Laurent's collections are exhibited in this museum.
His iconic, cobalt blue villa gave the designer a lot of inspiration. "Marrakech taught me color," said Saint Laurent. As a result of his love for the city, the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation set up the museum, which was one of the last projects of Saint Laurent's business partner, Bergé. He came up with the idea in 2010. "When this piece of land was put up for sale, Pierre Berge bought Zoom." Bergé died just before the museum opening.
The beautiful building, which cost around fifteen million euros, was designed by Studio KO architects in typical Moroccan style with a lot of terracotta use. The building displays an enormous collection of couture, accessories, sketches and photos of Saint Laurent. The famous Mondrian dress and the iconic women's tuxedo are part of the unique collection. The museum in Marrakech is focused on his designs that are specifically proposed for the culture of the Moroccan city: "The aim is to show Saint Laurent's contribution to fashion; he came here two weeks a year to design his collections, "says Dahlström. "Paris was his place of creation, but Marrakech was that of inspiration.
