5 Days of Flamingos Henequen and Mayan Culture in a 3 Star Hotel

Established in southeastern Mexico, the Maya occupied what are now the states of Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Chiapas and Tabasco.In the Yucatan peninsula you can visit the most important archaeological sites without having to travel long distances the Caribbean SeaThe name of this sea is derived from the Caribs, a native people that occupied part of the Lesser Antilles and of South America.

Day 1: Arrival

We will move from Mérida Airport to the center of the city. We will participate in a tour of this beautiful city and rest of the night off.

Day 2: Merida - Celestun

Today we will enjoy the wonderful Ría Celestun Biosphere Reserve, 90 km from Mérida, which thanks to its 600 km2 of extension, occupies Yucatan and Campeche. It is known for being the winter refuge of thousands of pink flamingos and other species and has a unique ecosystem! Since it combines the fresh water of the Ría Celestún with the salt water of the Gulf of Mexico. We will sail in our boat through natural mangrove tunnels and enjoy the natural spectacle of these incredible birds. The place also enjoys extensive beaches that are plagued with coconut trees. We will eat and in the afternoon we will return to Merida to rest from this exciting day. Free night.

Day 3: Merida – Hacienda Henequenera – Cenote – Uxmal

Today we will know the whole transformation process of Henequen (also called Green Gold in this region), from the plant to the fiber, and from the fiber to the finished product. We will also have the opportunity to see the old machinery that has been rescued from the ravages of time and rebuilt to its precise operative capacity. Our tour will also include a visit to a typical Mayan house where we will meet a lovely Mayan grandfather who barely speaks Spanish and will show us typical Mayan elements. At the end we can enjoy a refreshing dip, where you can swim safely in the refreshing waters of the hacienda's Cenote. We will eat at the Hacienda restaurant to taste the delicious Mayan cuisine. After lunch, we will leave for Uxmal and we will settle in our hotel.

Day 4: Uxmal - Mun-Ha - Valladolid

We will leave early to arrive with a cool climate to this magnificent archaeological zone. Known as "The Three Times Built", its architecture is one of the most impressive in Yucatan. A guide will give us an interesting explanation about what happened in this place in pre-Hispanic times. Later, we will visit the Mun-Ha rural tourism initiative, where we will taste its delicious regional food. We will move to the viewpoint of Muná (approximately 10 minutes by car), where we will learn about the honeybees (Mayan bee) and their importance, and we will make a tour of the ecological path and its relationship with the Mayan mythology, and finally we will participate in a rain stick workshop, we will take home our work of art. We will move to Valladolid. Bring mosquito repellent and shoe closed.

Day 5: Departure

You can walk through this beautiful city and later we will move to the Merida Airport.
