Matcha and tea ceremony are getting popular in Kyoto, but this tour is for the people more interested in the ingredients, where and how it grows. You can visit some historical tea stores of Uji and a tea farm in Wazuka town, and enjoy home meal together with the tea farmer, listening to the stories behind matcha bowls and tea whisks.
(Tea picking is available in May as a option).

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Uji River, Uji 611-0021 Kyoto Prefecture

Uji is a historical tea trading town with a lot of tea processing stores dealing with high quality matcha and green tea leaves. We will first walk along the Uji river side to learn basic knowledge of tea, visiting tea stores and tasting various kinds of tea, such as houjicha (roasted tea), matcha (powdered tea) and genmaicha (tea with rice).

Stop At: Byodoin Temple, 116 Uji Renge, Uji 611-0021 Kyoto Prefecture

UNESCO world heritage site. Byodoin-temple stands for “The Pure Land Paradise”, which represents heaven. The landmark of the phenix hall is depicted on the 10 yen coin.

Stop At: Tsuen Teahouse and Shop, Higashiuchi-1 Uji, Kyoto 611-0021, Japan

The oldest tea house in Japan. The history dates back to 12th century, established in 1160.

Stop At: Mitsuboshien Kanbayashi Sannyu Main Shop, Renge-27-2 Uji, Kyoto 611-0021, Japan

It's a historical tea store, where you can see how to grind matcha powder by a stone mill, and there is a small exhibition on tea production in old days.

Tea farmers market, where you can buy tea products from 70 different farmers.

Duration: 20 minutes
