Overlooking the so-called Golfo d’Oro on the Costa dei Trabocchi, the charming town of Vasto boasts ancient origins dating back to Roman times. Valuable examples of this first phase are the beautiful floor mosaics of the Roman baths. Among historical anecdotes and popular beliefs, between the twilight of the devotional chapels and the luminous panoramic walk on the Amblingh loggia, the visit itinerary unravels touching the major monuments of the city, in a journey to discover Abruzzo along the centuries until today.
At the end of the tour, it will be possible to optionally visit the Civic Museums of Palazzo d’Avalos or spend time in the shops and shops of the historic center.

Pass By: Loggia Amblingh, 66054, Vasto Italy

Guglielmo Amblingh, was a military man following Cesare Michelangelo d’Avalos and moved from Graz to Vasto in 1707.
In 1723 Amblingh was appointed commander of the troops of house of Avalos. He was the owner of several houses located along the famous promenade that took his name, when he died in 1760 he was buried in the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The walk in the Amblingh lodge is very suggestive, it seems to be suspended between sky and sea. Also fascinating is the view of the golden gulf especially at sunset

Stop At: Palazzo d'Avalos - Musei Civici, Piazza Lucio Valerio Pudente 5, 66054, Vasto Italy

The Palazzo D'Avalos dates back to 1427 and was built at the behest of the feudal lord Giacomo Caldora on the plan of an existing structure of the 1300s.
The noble family of Spanish origin D’Avalos made a revisitation when he transferred his court to Vasto, wanting to enrich the historic center.

Inside the Palace you can visit the museums:
The Archaeological Museum, the oldest in Abruzzo with finds from the Iron Age up until the Middle Ages.
Pinecoteca Civica, with paintings by Palizzi
Museum of Ancient Costume, with costumes from the 800-900 era.

Walking through the historic center of Vasto it is possible to visit the Caldoresco Castle (1439) which was built by the Sienese architect Mariano di Jacopo by order of Giacomo Caldora, feaudatory and lord of Vasto.
One of the most important monuments of the city, the castle is located right in the historic center of the city and turns its gaze on Piazza Rossetti and Piazza Barbacani, dominating the entire coast and allowing you to enjoy a magnificent panorama of the waterfront.
The Caldoresco castle was born as the central fulcrum of the defensive structure of Vasto and was built using precise military techniques to limit a possible vulnerability of the walls.
In the center there is a medieval-style courtyard, almond-shaped ramparts,
two towers and four curtain walls with a moat and drawbridge.

Pass By: Torre Bassano, Piazza Rossetti 42, 66054, Vasto Italy

The Bassano Tower dates back to 1439 and was also commissioned by another nobleman, the Marquis of Bassano. La Torre is located in the historic center of Vasto, near Piazza Gabriele Rossetti.
This structure, with its cylindrical shape and all in brick, was entrusted with the task of protecting the city, during the Middle Ages, when the walls were still present, connected to the Caldoro castle.
