Walking down Fort Cochin's streets is much like going back in time into the 18th century! Large arboreal roads with names such as Princess Avenue and Rose Avenue which differentiate elegant tiled houses from the Portuguese to the Dutch to the British period,Great landscapes with kids playing soccer, historic church and a seafront waterfront lined with Chinese fishing lines, all allow for an idyllic atmosphere that brings you back in time.

At about 9 am in the morning or 4 :30 pm in e ening, in your air-conditioned sedan, you will be whisked from your hotel to Fort Immanuel. This vestige when belonged to the Portuguese and is an emblem of the strategic partnership between Cochin's Maharaja and Portugal's Monarch, named during the fort.
The next place to watch is the old Thakur Building, which stands upright as a colonial era concrete specimen. The structure is elegant. Formerly known as Kunal or Hill Bungalow, during the British rule it was home to the managers of India's National Bank.
Go on and you're waiting for another colonial structure-David Hall. The Dutch East India Company built it around 1695. The hall is associated with the revered Dutch commander Hendrik Adriaan van Reed tot Drakeston, who is more admired for his monumental book on Kerala's flora, namely Hortus Malabaricus. Turn right again and you'll get to Princess Street.Leisurely strolling from just the corner of the Loafer, you will see the chapel of Santa Cruz, the historical church was built by the Portugal and restored by Pope Paul IV in 1558 to a church. It was declared a basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984. You walk down after a quick look at the Burgher Street and the Delta Study, a heritage bungalow built in 1808 and now functioning as a secondary school.To Princess Avenue once more and Rose Avenue again. You'd find a Vasco home there, assumed to be Vasco-da Gama's home. One of the oldest of Portuguese residences in Kochi is this traditional and modern European home.Take a left and you move to the Ridsdale Street to find the VOC gateway, the giant wooden gateway overlooking the Parade ground. Completed in 1740, the gate originally comes from the Dutch East India Company's company logo (VOC) on it. Reach the intersection of Vasco-da Gama. Take a closer look at the fishing net in China.
