The Paradesi Synagogue is the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, located in Kochi, Kerala, in South India. Constructed in 1568, it is one of seven synagogues of the Malabar Yehudan or Yehudan Mappila people or Cochin Jewish community in the Kingdom of Cochin.

Jew Town is a narrow stretch between Mattancherry Palace and the Pardesi Synagogue, famous for its legendary antique shops. The area itself traces its origin to the Jews from Kodungalloor, who were granted this land by the King of Kochi in 1524. While the last century witnessed a huge drain in the population towards Israel, to this very day, the stands of Jew Town are full of carved wooden furniture and vessels, Jewellery, crockery, wooden pillars, curios, wooden and metal figurines, statuettes, carved wooden furniture and handicrafts like wooden elephants, mirrors, wall hangings and paintings. A simple stroll will sweep you back to a variety of exotic cultures and the remains that contain snippets of their vivid stories.
