Visit Chitradurga on this full-day trip from Bangalore. You have the option to join this tour in a private car or a classic Royal Enfield motorcycle. Chitradurga is a magnificent fort from the 17th century and is located 200km north of Bangalore. Explore the fort with its seven concentric fortification walls, 19 gateways, 38 posterior entrances, 35 secret pathways, four invisible passages, water tanks and 2000 watch towers. This tour also includes breakfast, lunch, and the services of a full-time tour guide.

Depart from Bangalore at 6:30 or 7am, depending on your selected option. After a drive of 70km, we take a short break for breakfast at Tumkur, a town famous for growing coconuts, millets, rice, pulses, arecanut and oil seeds.

Afterwards, journey for about 3.5 hours before reaching Chitradurga. Chitradurga is an ancient town and was part of the Mauryan Empire under Ashoka the Great, in the 3rd century BC. Chitradurga Fort covers an area of 1500 acres and its walls cover a distance of 8km. The fort was built between the 17th and 18th centuries by several Kings and dynasties ranging from Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas, Nayaks, Hoysalas, Vijayanagar and Hyder Ali.

It is a fascinating experience to explore this fort with its seven concentric fortification walls, 19 gateways, 38 posterior entrances, 35 secret pathways, four invisible passages, water tanks and 2000 watch towers! Upon reaching the top, other than magnificent views, various passages, a citadel, a mosque, warehouses for grains and oil, water reservoirs and 18 temples greet us.

Chitradurga is supposed to have never suffered from any water shortage. The several rain harvesting structures still exist for a closer look. An amazing artifact to be seen is the gun powder grinding machine. It is a quadruple mill with four massive grinders with teeth and slots. These were pulled by elephants or bullocks in rotating motion and was used by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan to make gun powder. Learn about the great epic, Mahabharata, which features Chitradurga.

You will enjoy lunch at around 1pm at Lakshmi Bhavan Tiffin Room in Chitradurga
