In this 3 day tour, we will fly in from Bangalore and visit the World Heritage Site of ancient Vijayanagara Empire at Hampi. One of the richest cities in the world in the 15th century, Hampi is the world's largest open air museum. Relive the golden era of the Vijaynagara empire by exploring the Royal enclosures, Queen's bath, Elephant stables and Palaces. We will visit magnificent temples like Virupaksha which has a river flowing through it, Vijaya Vittala with its legendary musical pillars, Ugra Narasimha and Hazara Rama. Enjoy the scenery through a serene ride on a coracle over the Tungabhadra river. Explore ancient cave paintings and village life at Anegundi

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Hampi

Stop At: Group of Monuments at Hampi, Southern Bank of the River Tungabhadra, Hampi 583239 India
345PM- Departure from Bangalore by flight

445PM- Arrival in Bellary

6PM- We drive down to Hampi.

We start exploring Hampi. Badavi Linga is the biggest of all lingas in Hampi. It is made of black stone and rises 12 feet in height. A canal passes through it and hence it’s always in water.

You can find the biggest idol of Hampi, a few feet from Badavi Linga. Ugra Narasimha is 22 feet in height and was carved by a Brahmin during Krishnadevaraya’s time. There is a serpent with open hood at the back.

Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple is a huge statue of Lord Ganesha, carved out of a single block of rock. We will visit this 8 feet tall of the Lord.

We visit the magnificent Virupaksha temple It is from the Hoysala period and is the oldest temple in Hampi. The temple tower has eleven storeys and goes up 165 ft in height. The river Tungabhadra flows inside.

Day 2: Royal enclosures of Hampi

Stop At: Royal Enclosures, Hampi 4 Km from Hampi, Bellary India
We start the day at the Royal enclosure of Hampi which was the seat of power of the Vijayanagara kingdom. This area consists of durbar halls, platform, tanks, underground chambers, and temples. We start at Queen's Bath which is a magnificent structure and used to be the private bathing chamber for the royalty of Vijaynagara Empire.

We will next visit the Zanana enclosure , which was the place for the royal women. The Lotus Mahal is the most impressive structure here. It is a palace is a two-storied building surrounded by a rectangular wall and four towers. The Palace gets a Lotus like look with pyramidal shaped towers.

Another impressive structure in the Royal Enclosure is the Stone Door. They are a pair of monolith doors which used to be at the entrance of a massive Fort.

We will visit the only temple in the Royal Enclosure. Hazara Rama is a temple dedicated to Lord Ram, the incarnation of Vishnu.

After lunch we will do a ride in the coracle on the Tungabhadra River.

Stop At: Anegundi Fort, Tungabhadra, Angegundi Village, Hampi India
Towards the evening we will visit Anegundi village for the cave paintings. The paintings here date back to the Iron Age around 1500 BC.

Day 3: Stone chariot and Vittala temple

Stop At: Vijaya Vittala Temple, Near Kalyan Mantapa, Hampi 583239 India
Vijaya Vittala temple is probably the grandest masterpiece around. It is constructed on a polyhedron foundation. Right at the front is the world renowned stone chariot made of rough quartz. You will spot figures of soldiers, hunters and even foreign visitors like Portuguese and Arabs etched on the chariot.

The musical pillars of the temple is one of the greatest work of art by mankind.

Stop At: King’s Balance, Hampi, Karnataka 583239, India
King’s Balance is the last destination. This is a huge stone frame east of Purandara Mantapa. A stone beam is placed on two pillars of stone. Legend has it that the generous Kings of Vijayanagara used to weigh them with gold and gems and distribute it among the poor.
