Ghanian adventure safari 8 Days 7 nights ( basic)

This trip to Ghana includes a visit to craft village in the Ancient Ashanti Kingdom, slave castles on the Cape Coast, and significant sites in Accra such as independence square, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park among other. It is an awesome journey and much rewarding.

Itinerary

Day 1: ACCRA- GHANA

Pass By: Accra Mall, Plot C11, Spintex Rd. Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, Accra Ghana
Arrive in Accra and check at the hotel, Best Western Plus Accra Beach. There will be activities on this day depending on arrival time and preference

Day 2: Accra

Stop At: James Town Lighthouse, Cleland Road, Accra Ghana
It will be a full day tour to the city of Accra. Places of the visit include the Independence Square, have an opportunity to the enclosed flame of Africa that was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. Also, visit Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where the first president of Ghana was laid to rest. The place is set in attractive gardens joined by the museum which has photos, artifacts, and insight of Dr. Nkrumah’s life. There is a National Culture Centre as well. It is the largest outdoor art and craft market in West Africa selling traditional crafts. Followed by James Town, Accra historical neighborhood where history resides. The town is well-known for its lighthouses that were constructed by the British in 1875 as a navigational aid for trading vessels. Lastly, walk around the Brazil House, learn more about the seven Afro-Brazilians families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. The most familiar name of Brazilian include; De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, and others.

Day 3: ACCRA- KUMASI

Stop At: Kumasi Zoo, Kumasi Ghana
Drive to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti kingdom. Tour Manhiya palace the official residence of the Ashanti kings (Asantehene) until 1974. It is now a museum containing treasured items related to the Ashanti kingdom. You will also see Okomfo Sword, the ultimate symbol of Ashanti unity. It marks the spot where the golden stool ‘descended from the sky.’ It has been there for 300 years now, and legend has it said the Ashanti kingdom would collapse was the sword ever removed

Day 4: KUMASI

Stop At: Manhyia Palace Museum, Ahanti New Town Road off Antoa Road, Kumasi Ghana
After breakfast, visit the Ashanti craft villages such as the woodcarving village of Ahwiaa, well- known for artisans who fashion high stools, walking sticks and fertility dolls from wood. You can purchase carved items of all kinds. Followed by the village of Ntonso where artisan’s hand-stamp patterns on a cotton cloth to make Adinkra textiles. Black-on-black and blank-on- red Adinkra cloth is worn on funeral and solemn occasions. You will have an opportunity to learn how to make black dye from bark of trees. You can make your Adinkra sash to take home. Later continue to the village of Bonwire, the famous Kente cloth is handmade on looms in the time-honored tradition passed down through generations. In the process of creating kente cloth in various style, you will see kente weavers. You can purchase souvenirs or gifts.

In the evening visit the Kumasi Central market, also known as Kejetia Market. It is the largest open-air market in West Africa where more than 10000 vendors sell their wares

Day 5: KUMASI- CAPE COAST

Stop At: Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast Ghana
Drive to Cape coast with a stop at the Gold mine town of Obuasi and Assin Manso, the burial site of two famous slaves from US and Jamaica. Visit the’ Slave River’ where capture African bathed before being confined into slavery castles waiting for shipment to the Americans and the Caribbean. In the evening, go for a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina. View the colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to the sea from another night’s task of fishing. There is an excellent opportunity for photographers.

Day 6: CAPE COAST

Stop At: Elmina Castle, Elmina Ghana
Visit the Elmina Castle, a UNESCO world heritage site built in 1482. It was the first European structure built in sub- Saharan Africa. At noon, have a guided tour through cape coast Castle and Castle Museum. The cape coast castle was a departure point for Africans being sent into slavery in the Americas while the castle museum was a home of ‘Door of No Return

Day 7: CAPE COAST- ACCRA

Stop At: Kakum National Park, Cape Coast Ghana
Visit one of the most famous parks in Ghana, Kakum National Park. Take a brief walk through the forest floor. See birds, butterflies, and perhaps capture a variety of mammal’s species including the monkeys and reclusive forest elephant. Continue to the canopy walk, a 1000 foot long and seven- bridge walkway viewing platforms that reach heights if 150 feet above the ground. At noon, back to Accra via the village of Abandze of the home of Louis Armstrong, the famous American Jazz Musician

Day 8: ACCRA-DEPARTURE
