2 days guided tour from Addis Ababa to enjoy game driving of Awash National Park to see Beisa Oryx, Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Salt’s Dik-Diks, Warthogs, Vervet monkeys, crocs, and the rare Colobus Monkey. Awash Park has more than 400 bird species.

Other interesting stops include visiting a local family of the Oromo people, taking part in a typical Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony, enjoying the panoramic view of the Ethiopian part of the Great East African Rift Valley, the extinct volcanic remnants of Fentale, and the picturesque Awash River Gorge.

Itinerary

Day 1: Addis Ababa - Bishoftu - Awash National Park Ethiopia

Pass By: Yerer Mountain, Bishoftu, Ethiopia Debrezeit, Bishoftu 1000 Ethiopia
Have a great view of Yerer Mountain from the street near the Bishoftu or Debre Ziet town.

Stop At: Bishoftu, Bishoftu, Oromiya Region
After driving 45 km east of Addis Ababa, stop at the crater lake of Bishoftu (Debre Ziet) which is remarkable for its scenic beauty and being the second deepest lake in Ethiopia.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Metehara, Ethiopia
Have lunch at Metehara town, and proceed driving to Awash NP with a stop at the saline Lake of Beseka – set in a unique landscape surrounded with black basalt lava remnants and strangely increasing in size and water volume.

Around Metehara, visit one of the villages of the Oromo people for cultural experience and to learn how to bake Enjera – the Ethiopian National Bread.

Stop At: Awash National Park, Awash National Park, Afar Region
Walk for about an hour around Awash Falls Lodge in the Awash National Park to visit the magnificent Awash River Falls and to see crocodiles, baboons and different low land water birds.

Day 2: Awash National Park - Addis Ababa

Stop At: Awash National Park Entrance, Mawasn, Ethiopia
After breakfast, game drive in Awash NP to see Beisa Oryx, Warthogs, Soemmerring’s Gazelle, Salt’s Dik-Diks, lesser Kudus, and if lucky, you may spot crocodiles in the Awash River. Among the more than 400 species of birds found in park, six endemic birds of Ethiopia can be seen in the park i.e. – Barbed Barbet, Golden Backed Woodpecker, White Winged Cliff Chat, White Tailed Starling, Thick Billed Raven, and Wattled Ibis. Then, head to a viewpoint to see the superb views of the Awash River Gorge. The Awash River does not reach the sea and runs a distance of about 1,200 km only in Ethiopia.

Stop At: Adama, Adama, Oromiya Region
Have a lunch stop at Nazareth (Adama). Take part in a typical Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony and enjoy one of the best cups of coffees you ever taste. As Coffee is originally from the Kaffa area of Western Ethiopia, you may expect to taste your coffee and enjoy it as Ethiopians do.
