This expedition will take us to the highest active volcano in the world! We are not only going to visit the must-see places in the Cotopaxi National Park, but we will also have the chance to hike up to José Rivas at 4,800m (15,744 ft), and come face-to-face with the imposing Cotopaxi volcano To later soak up on the 3 whirlpools of APU Mountain Spa.

Stop At: Cotopaxi National Park, Ecuador

We set off from Quito for Cotopaxi National Park early in the morning (07H30), stopping briefly at Hacienda El Porvenir to relax and have a drink. We continue on to the Park and cross the páramo plains where we will eventually reach the car park below the climbing hut. From here, we begin to hike up to the hut (or “refuge” in Spanish) at 4,800m. (15,744 ft), and come face-to-face with the imposing, snow-clad Cotopaxi volcano. After descending from the Refugio, we will continue on to Limpiopungo Lake and be served a delicious packed lunch. After lunch, we get back in the vehicle and drive across gorgeous landscapes as far as the Pucará del Salitre, an ancient Inca fortress on the route to the Amazon basin. After this visit, we can drive to Hacienda El Porvenir where you can access APU Mountain SPA wet area with no extra cost (massages not included). Then we will return to Quito.
